In Jane May's debut novel DOGGY STYLE, the reader is introduced to Miles the dog. The story is told through the eyes of Miles, as only a dog would see it. Miles was a homeless dog picked up by a shelter. One day he meets Jen and Bob who have been dating and want to adopt a dog. Jen and Bob are not ready to get married and commit to each other yet. They both have gone through a divorce. Bob's divorce isn't even finalized yet! Jen has trust issues and starts to think Bob is cheating on her. The couple split up and that's when the humor begins!

When Jen tries to start dating a new man; Miles puts his paw down and doesn't allow it. He ruins every date she attempts. If he's not passing wind to ruin the moment, he's taking a number two right where the date will step in it. Miles stares at the dates while they are trying to be intimate with Jen. He trys hard to make them uncomfortable, after all, only Bob belongs with Jen!

Miles plays fair and ruins Bob's dates too. Miles is like a child with two parents that split up and trying to get them back together. But Miles isn't a child, he's a dog!

Jen and Bob talk to Miles like he's a person but slang words get lost in translation with this dog. Miles' bewilderment at what these humans are talking about is where the big laughs happen in the book. He loves Jen and Bob and just wants them back together, snuggled up in bed and loving him.

DOGGY STYLE was a unique new way to tell a story. This book kept me laughing the whole time I read it. It was such a cute story, how poor little Miles just wants his family back together again, and how he will go to any length to get what he wants. I loved the idea that dogs are actually barking words at us and not just barks. We just don't understand their barks and what they really mean. You will laugh and root for Miles to get his way, no matter how naughty he is being. If you weren't a dog lover before, you will be after reading this book!

SUMMARY

After Jen and Bob, a forty-something couple, adopt Miles from the pound, life is pretty terrific. But when circumstances cause the “pack” to suddenly split, Miles is devastated. He can’t exactly tell the couple to lick and make-up, so he’ll have to do things doggy style. Because when it comes to making sure true love stays the course, a dog’s gotta go what a dog’s gotta do.

A quintessential New York dog story that follows its characters to Central Park, Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s, the Hamptons, and all across the city, DOGGY STYLE is sure to tap into the nation’s frenzied obsession with four-legged creatures. It also attempts to answer that centuries’ old question – “I wonder what my dog is thinking?”
