Carlotta Wren was wealthy and happy until her parents
skipped bail for a white collar crime and left Carlotta
and her brother to fend for themselves. At only 18 years
old, Carlotta was not prepared to raise her 9 year old
brother Wesley. She got a job at Neiman Marcus; catering
to the rich girls she used to go to school with. Carlotta
has dealt with the life she was handed, and is now 28
years old. Wesley, 19 years old, has gotten himself into
some trouble. He has a gambling problem and is in serious
debt with some loan sharks. Without a job to pay them
back, the loan sharks are coming after Carlotta for the
money. Carlotta insists that Wesley needs to get a job and
pay off his debt, but she meant a normal job, not a body
moving job! Wesley meets a man named Coop who picks up
bodies and transports them to the morgue. He hires Wesley
as a body mover and here is where the mystery starts.
After driving Wesley to a body moving job, Carlotta
discovers that she knows the deceased person her brother
is moving! Carlotta plays amateur detective trying to
solve the mystery of how this person ended up dead. In the
mean time, Carlotta has run into Peter Ashford, her ex
fiance from high school. Peter and Carlotta broke up when
her parents abandoned her. She loved him and has never
truly gotten over the break up. Sure it's been ten years
since they broke up, but it takes time to mend a broken
heart! Is Peter the same boy she knew in high school or
has he changed for the worse? Can Carlotta and Peter
rekindle their love for each other?
Carlotta becomes wrapped up in the murder/suicide mystery,
while three men try for her affection. Will it be Peter,
Coop or the hunky Detective Terry? Detective Terry is
looking into her parents' disappearance and this doesn't
sit well with Carlotta. She wants to leave the past in the
past and move on. Will Wesley ever pay off his debt? Will
Carlotta solve the mystery and get the man? Will Carlotta
and Wesley's parents ever return to them? Read this
exciting mystery to find out!
I devoured this book and loved it! I think readers will
identify themselves well with Carlotta, the down on her
luck, retail working, left by her parents and fiance,
raising her own brother, every day girl. It's a refreshing
change to read about a character that DOESN'T have it all.
BODY MOVERS is a sexy mystery with heart. Stephanie Bond
has written a very enjoyable book that fans of Janet
Evanovich are sure to enjoy. This is the first book in
Stephanie Bond's new series and I look forward to reading
the next installment. The book concludes with an ending
that will leave readers yearning to read her next book.
Enjoy BODY MOVERS and look out for the next book in 2007.
Okay, so Carlotta Wren’s life hasn’t turned out as she’d
planned. She didn’t plan for her parents to skip bail for
a white collar crime, leaving her to raise her younger
brother. She didn’t plan on having the silver spoon
ripped out of her mouth and forgoing college to work
retail. She didn’t plan on her blueblood fiancé dumping
her like last year’s designer bag. And she didn’t plan
for, ten years later, to still be single (with no
prospects), working at Neiman Marcus, with no idea where
her fugitive parents are. But she’s coping, sort of.
Until…
…her lovable brother is arrested and his loan sharks come
calling.
…the hunky cop who arrested her brother reopens her
parents’ case.
…her brother becomes a body mover, transporting corpses
from crime scenes.
…her former fiancé’s wife (a good customer) is murdered,
fingering Carlotta.
…her brother’s sexy boss pulls her into the bizarre world
of body moving.
Suddenly Carlotta realizes that she has to bag a murderer
to keep her own well-dressed body from being next on the
list!
