Romance Historical
In 1859, ladies of New York society are expected to do
three
things well: find a husband, organize a household, and
have
children. But despite her mother’s best intentions,
making
her debut is the last thing on Rosemary Fitzpatrick’s
mind. Writing the popular Harry Hawk dime novels as F.P.
Elliott,
she’s too busy hiding her female identity from her new
publisher, Henry Cooper. To protect her clandestine
career,
she ends up posing as the enigmatic author's secretary. Henry is not the typical Boston Brahmin, nor the typical
publisher, and Rosemary entrances him from the moment
they
meet. As they work together and grow closer, he wonders
how
his traditional-minded father will react when he brings
her
into the family, because Henry firmly intends to marry
the
working-class woman. But when her deception begins to unravel at the cotillion
ball, will Henry be able to forgive her or has deceit
cost
her the man she loves?

Re: The Duplicitous Debutante
Hi Becky, Great post as always. I love that you found out about the dime novels and used the writing of them for one of your characters. All your Heroines go beyond the norm for women of their time. This one doesn't disappoint. (Barbara Heintz 4:20pm September 10, 2014)
Thanks, Barb. It was great fun to come up with the Harry Hawk character for this story, and to weave his story into Rosemary's. (Becky Lower 8:43pm September 10, 2014)
I really enjoyed reading your posting today, and remember hearing about those dime novels, but don't recall where, now!! It was interesting, however, to read your telling of the History of it, and to read about your book. That always makes it a bit more special, when the time comes to read it!! The cover to your book was really well thought-out, and I'm looking forward to curling up with it this Fall, as well as reading your interpretation of the dime novel. Congratulations on what I'm sure was a bit of a fun read to write!! (Peggy Roberson 9:49am September 11, 2014)
