This is a sequel to AFTER MIDNIGHT
Featuring: Jeremiah Cortez; Phoebe Keller
Add to Wish List
Jeremiah Cortez thought he'd left the past behind him. Over
the years he'd made quite a few changes, giving up his job
as a D.C. prosecutor and returning to the FBI. But no matter
how hard he tried to run away from his former self, there
was one woman he could never forget...
Phoebe Keller has come a long way since she last saw Cortez
on the day of her college graduation. She's built a good
life, and has made a name for herself as curator of the
Chenocetah Museum in North Carolina, with expertise in the
local Native American culture.
Danger encroaches on her quiet life when an anonymous phone
call threatens to turn her comfortable world upside down. A
man claiming to be an anthropologist who has just made a
major discovery calls to warn Phoebe that a construction
company is about to jeopardize the site of his major find:
the first skeletal remains of a Neanderthal in North America.
Phoeber takes this announcement with a grain of salt -- no
Neanderthal remains have ever been found in North America.
But before she can take any action, the professor turns up
dead on the local Native American reservation.
In the aftermath of the murder, the last person Phoebe
expects to find on her doorstep to handle the investigation
is Jeremiah Cortez, whose mandate for returning to law
enforcement is a new federal program devoted to solving
crime on Native American reservations.
While Phoebe can't forget the heartbreak Cortez once caused,
she can't deny the attraction that still smolders between
them. As the two delve further into the murder, antagonistic
and uneasy in each other's company, they find themselves
entangled in a world of danger when they realize that Phoebe
can identify the murderer.
Racing against time, Phoebe and Cortez uncover lies and
conspiracies...but will they find the killer before it's too
late to save Phoebe's life?
