Novella / Short Story

Dream Rerouted is a story of an ordinary guy whose life doesn't go as planned. Here is how he bounces back.

Billy grew up with the expectation set by his father that one day he would work in the town's architectural marvel: a twelve-story insurance office known as the "glass tower". However, his life took a drastic turn during his final year of high school when a fatal road accident on a football trip resulted in the loss of his left leg. This injury ended his hopes for college scholarships and altered his career path. After years of surgeries and rehab, and following the recent death of his mother, Billy returns home and attempts to "pick up the pieces"

While ruminating on his lost dreams near the glass tower, Billy has a chance encounter with a young professional, Kate Kline. After helping Billy when one of his crutches slips, Kate encourages him to change his perspective on his failed ambitions. She offers a pivotal piece of advice: "Reroute your dream … maybe, you can work with them instead of working for them".

This conversation gives Billy an impetus to find a new way to connect with the glass tower by rerouting the dream. Billy decides to start a mobile coffee cart - "Coffee with Croissants".

He spends a grueling month securing a bank loan, obtaining a handicap parking permit, and learning the professional trade of coffee making. On July 15, he parks his cart at the corner of the glass tower. His presence immediately causes a conflict with security guards who deem his cart an encroachment on public space.

During the tense standoff with security, Kate reappears as Billy's friend, asserting his right to be there. The situation escalates until the arrival of the "big boss," Mr. Kline, who is revealed to be Kate's father. Billy defends his business, explaining that while his life did not go as planned and he is not qualified to work in the office, his coffee is good enough to be there. Moved by Billy's story and his father’s dream, Mr. Kline validates Billy’s new path by requesting the first cup of coffee,
