Thriller | Mystery
Abby loves her job in the district attorney's homicide unit,
but her family is not at all happy that she took this job.
They wanted Abby to take a job with a high-class law firm.
Not at all what Abby wanted. Her family also do not approve
of her boyfriend, Ty. They feel that he is way below Abby's
elite upbringing. Abby knows when she gets a phone call in the middle of the
night that is not going to be good news. Little did she ever
think that this call would be about her friend Tim. Abby and
Tim worked together in the district attorney's office and
had a longtime affair. Abby is working with one of her good
friends Kevin who is a detective with the police force.
Kevin knows about the affair, but he is going to keep quiet
about it. Who would want to kill Tim? There is talk that he maybe he
was on the take. Abby feels deep down that there was no way
Tim was. While all this is consuming most of her time, Abby
still is dealing with her family. They have threatened to
take her trust away from her if she doesn't break up with Ty. Abby and Kevin continue to investigate Tim's murder. More
and more things start to fall into place. Some of it is not
what Abby expects. Well, all I can say is MISSION HILL by Pamela Wechsler is
brilliant. I enjoyed finding out about Abby's life, past,
and present. Once again I am amazed at home many mysteries
and thrillers are written by lawyers. I guess they would
know the ins and outs of the law. Pamela writes a great story about a woman who could have it
all but would rather help out people then rely on her
family's money. Most people don't have that choice. I know
that MISSION HILL and subsequent books are going to be a
great series, with Abby as the main character. As a matter
of fact I have also read her book THE
GRAVES which I believe is the second in this series
about Abby Endicott. I have to say both are great books. Looking forward to many
more of Abby.
SUMMARY
Abby Endicott is chief of the District Attorney’s homicide
unit in Boston, where she investigates and prosecutes the
city’s most dangerous killers. A member of Mission Hill’s
elite, and a graduate of the Winsor school and then Harvard
Law, the prosecutor’s office is not the prestigious job that
would have been expected of her. She has been known to
change into an evening gown amidst bodies in the morgue. She
loves her job, and is committed to it, refusing all pressure
to quit from her upper-crust parents or threats from the
city’s most ruthless killers. But among Abby’s many secrets
is her longtime affair with fellow prosecutor Tim Mooney, a
married father of one. One night, Abby is awakened very late by a phone call from
her favorite detective, who reports that there has been a
horrific murder but is vague about the specifics. When she
arrives at the crime scene and discovers the identity of the
victim, Abby knows the terror and tragedy are only beginning. In Mission Hill, debut novelist Pamela Wechsler
delivers a gripping and very human portrayal of a woman who
will stop at nothing to find the truth, even if it
challenges everything she believes about justice.
