HURRICANE is book five in the Cutter
Cay series by
romantic suspense author Cherry Adair. Book four,
STORMCHASER, had veered into some weird paranormal ground
that the rest of the series had not, which took me aback.
Fortunately, HURRICANE is back to nice normal reality,
albeit the augmented reality of your typical romantic
suspense, meaning over-the-top happenings. But it's all in
good fun!
HURRICANE only loosely involves the Cutter boys, a group
of brothers who run salvage operations, searching the high
seas for fantastic treasures. That's ok, though, because
each of the Cutter Cay books can be read as a
standalone.
Rydell Case is a rival treasure
hunter, whose fortunes have been tied up in vying with the
Cutter boys, both on the seas and in the courtroom. Now Ry
is in trouble. His brand new mega-yacht has been hijacked
and destroyed. It turns out Ry's father had the family
business in hock for millions of dollars, and on his death,
that bill has come due. And right now. Poor Ry needs the
boat that his ex-wife took in their divorce in order to make
make a quick salvage of a wreck that only he knows the loca
location to, in order to come up with a quick fortune to save
save his business.
Addison D'Marco has been living the high life, pursued
by a smarmy royal billionaire who is trying to lure her
back into his bed and into his life as his wife. Addy is
furious when she comes home from a rich-and-the-famous date
to find her ex-husband lying in wait for her on her ship.
Ry broke Addy's heart, and she wants nothing to do with him
ever again- nor do I blame her as the back story comes out!
out! She seems like a typical shallow rich girl at the begi
beginning of the story. I quickly came to root for Addy, thou
though. The people around her are truly heinous and diab
diabolical, and it turns out that she is a tragic heroine and
and not a tasteless bimbo.
As is usual for romantic suspense, the story is best
enjoyed with a firm suspension of one's disbelief. There
are several interweaving plotlines to keep the reader's
pulse elevated. The stakes keep rising, too, as Ry and
Addy scramble to keep ahead of the many evil henchmen and
figure out who is behind a nefarious plot they have become
entangled in. The sexual sparks between the couple fairly
fly off the page. Adair's HURRICANE is page turner; chock
full of adventure, derring-do, and steamy chemistry.
