Forensic sculptor, Eve Duncan saved Cara Delaney life in
the previous book, SHADOW PLAY, but the threat to her
life is not over. Cara and Eve leave for Scotland, where
Eve's
adoptive daughter
Jane MacGurie is looking for a treasure that is said to
be buried. But Cara is still in danger and the
people after her will stop at nothing to get to her.
The story in HIDE AWAY takes up directly after
SHADOW PLAY ended, and it can be confusing for someone
who hasn't read the previous book to understand what is
going on. Fortunately, you get an explanation to what
happened in the previous book early on.
I love the change of scenery in HIDE AWAY, from America
to Scotland, and it was thrilling to read about the hunt
for a lost treasure. Jane seems to be connected to Cira,
a young girl who survived the destruction of Herculaneum
when Mount Vesuvius erupted AD 79. Cira later traveled to
Scotland with a treasure or so the legend says. And, that
is the
treasure Lord MacDuff is after and has been nagging
Jane for years to search for. Jane being in Scotland
is perfect for Eve since she must stay hidden with Cara as
Joe Quinn, Eve's boyfriend, tries to find the people after
Cara.
HIDE AWAY is a fabulous book, but I was a bit frustrated
with
Cara towards the end. It's so easy to
forget that she is only eleven years old and that she has
been through much and that can make her quite impulsive
when it comes to protecting the ones she loves. I like
that it's so
easy to get into the story and that
the characters are so likable. I was especially
fascinated by Seth Caleb, a mysterious man who seems to
be very fond of Jane and her of him...although she seems
to
try very hard not to be interested. Jane lost her fiancé
Trevor, who
died
protecting her. Letting another man into her life
isn't easy.
HIDE AWAY is a thrilling book to read. Eve Duncan has not
had an easy life, with the loss of her daughter Bonnie,
but she has Joe and Jane in her life. Now
she also has Cara to look after. Even though it
seems more like Cara is the one looking after Eve, but
then again Cara made a promise.
Iris Johansen has written a book that really shows that
family isn't always blood, but family is one made of love.
In
the end, I want to say HIDE AWAY is perfect for
anyone looking for a suspenseful thriller with a dash of
romance.
