Sherrilyn Kenyon delivers another fun, exciting, and passionate love story in
DRAGONBANE. Maxis Drago is one of Kenyon's tortured heroes.
He's a bit withdrawn but extremely loyal and this trait gets put to the test
when his mate suddenly appears asking for his help. Their relationship is
strained from the beginning and they must first put aside their
differences if they are to work together to battle this evil. The interesting
thing is, until minutes before his mate arrives, he didn't know
he was a father. Now his children are in trouble and in dire need of
his help.
Kenyon really is a master storyteller. Reading her books transports me into
another world where everything is different yet comfortable at the same time.
I say this because you know what you are getting with a Dark Hunters
book. Kenyon's storytelling reminds me so much of what got me
into reading in the first place. The humor, the angst, the excellent
world building, all take me back to what Paranormal Romance encompasses
to me as a reader. Yet Kenyon's vast imagination allows for twists and
surprises along the way. Just when I think I know what's going to happen,
Kenyon takes a detour and enchants me yet again.
What's great about a long-standing series like this one is you get to see
familiar faces along the way. While I think you could probably enjoy this
novel as a standalone, the real magic happens if you're familiar with all the
characters in the series. Humor is a big part of what makes this series so much
fun,
and a lot of that comes from past characters walking on and cracking a few
jokes.
Kenyon's Young Adult voice comes in handy here when Drago's children also
get a few pages in this book. So you can see her versatility as she plays
around with her point of views. Mixed with the fantastic historical references,
readers get another fantastic installment to the Dark Hunters universe.
Out of all the mysterious boarders who call Sanctuary home, no one is more antisocial or withdrawn than Maxis Drago. But then, it's hard to blend in with the modern world when you have a fifty foot wingspan. Centuries ago, he was cursed by an enemy who swore to see him fall. An enemy who took everything from him and left him forever secluded. But Fate is a bitch, with a wicked sense of humor. And when she throws old enemies together and threatens the wife he thought had died centuries ago, he comes back with a vengeance. Modern day New Orleans has become a battleground for the oldest of evils. And two dragons will hold the line, or go down in flames, in DRAGONBANE, the next explosive Dark-Hunter novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon.
