Life has gotten a little complicated for Georgina Kincaid,
your friendly neighborhood succubus.
All her hell-gifted powers are intact and in working order;
immortality, shape shifting and seduction are definitely
perks, but they don't come close to making up for what her
centuries old deal with the dark side is costing her.
Hell on earth for Georgina means:
-Being head over heels in love with a human, when
consummating your mutual desire could suck the soul from his
body.
-Heroically giving him up to the arms of your best friend
then somehow getting roped in to help plan the
wedding...including wearing a bridesmaid dress.
-While you bravely abstain from sleeping with the groom, a
real bitch of a succubus hits town, takes on your form, and
does her best to seduce him in your place.
It's no wonder when an overpoweringly seductive supernatural
cloud of music and pretty lights shows up promising Georgina
peace and joy and escape, it gets harder (and harder) to
resist.
Then Cody the geeky vampire falls for Gabrielle the human
Goth chick (who thinks he's too mainstream for her tastes)
and asks Georgina to set him up with her, her demon boss
Jerome is getting inspected by the head office; and perhaps
most disturbing of all, her hot roommate Roman is spending
less time plotting to kill her and more time plotting to get
into her pants.
Life could be better.
In SUCCUBUS SHADOWS, Richelle Mead manages to build on the
four previous books in the series, and add more than a few
intriguing curve balls to keep readers coming back.
The plot she develops also provides the opportunity to
reveal some of the more fascinating aspects of Georgina's
long history.
I hadn't read Mead's Succubus series prior to this one.
I had such a good time I will be reading the previous four
and lining up to buy number six when it arrives.
Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Immortality,
seduction, shape-shifting into any human form she desires,
walking in heels that would cripple mere mortals--all
child's play to a succubus like her.
Helping to plan her
ex-boyfriend's wedding is a different story. Georgina isn't
sure which is worse--that Seth is marrying another woman, or
that Georgina has to run all over Seattle trying on
bridesmaid dresses. Still, there are distractions.
Georgina's roommate, Roman, is cluttering her apartment with
sexual tension. Then there's Simone, the new succubus in
town, who's intent on corrupting Seth.
But the real
danger lies in the mysterious force that's visiting her
thoughts, trying to draw her into a dark, otherworldly
realm. Sooner or later, Georgina knows she'll be too weak to
resist. And when that happens, she'll discover who she can
trust, who she can't--and that Hell is far from the worst
place to spend eternity. . .
