As a human, Jake Hawkins sacrificed himself to save the lives of others during a war he did not believe in or understand. His reward comes in the form of a winged man, who asks him to become a guardian to protect humankind. Jake agrees and embraces the changes, such as teleporting, which he has a hard time controlling and the appearance of his own wings. Jake's fascination with the prophecies surrounding the hierarchy of the guardians leads him to ancient temples and the woman known as the Black Widow.
Over 120 years ago, during a vulnerable moment in her human life, Alice Grey became bound by a Demon's bargain. A bargain she's frantically searching for a way out of. Being a guardian and protector of humankind has its perks, such as the ability to research the prophecy surrounding the man she must kill to fulfill her own destiny. She's following a lead by searching for clues at the ancient temples when a novice guardian collides with her, changing any outcome from that point forward.
I loved the unique characters and the intricate storyline in DEMON BOUND. Unfortunately, the plot flow was a bit erratic, at times, and created an annoying cycle of confusion. I would be into an exciting arc of the story when something would occur out of the blue, which caused me to go back and reread earlier sections to find the connection, only to still be wondering how I got where I was in the storyline. For me, this novel had the promise to be really great, but it lacked the continuity to make it so.
