King Striking Jaguar is not like the royalty one would normally be familiar with. His people are known as the Nightkeepers, warrior-priests who summon Mayan Gods to battle demons of the world. As a child, only a few of Strike's clan survived an attack that resulted in them being scattered across the globe for protection. Now the time has come to gather his people and go to war against the Mayan demons from the underworld set on triggering an apocalypse. However, Strike's recent visions of Leah Daniels and her role in his life present a mystery he must unravel.

Leah Daniels is usually confident in her skills as a Miami- Dade detective until the man in her dreams, Striking Jaguar, literally appears in front of her and in the strangest of places. Unfortunately, episodes such as this one are the first of many that will lead Leah into a world she's destined to be a part of but not exactly welcomed into. Together, Leah and Strike will search for the answers both of them need to survive and possibly work together to battle evil.

Jessica Anderson skillfully weaves an intricate paranormal world with fascinating characters. Thankfully, NIGHTKEEPERS is the first of a series about the Mayan 2012 Doomsday prophecy, and I look forward to many more riveting books by Ms. Andersen featuring these intriguing characters with unique paranormal skills. I can't wait for the next one!
