Not even a full year has passed since Joanna Archer learned she has a destiny. A place in the world of the super beings who make up Zodiac Troop 175, quartered in Las Vegas. Joanna is the Kairos, the chosen one, who will lead the agents of Light to victory against the agents of Shadow. Half-Light and Half-Shadow herself, Joanna fights the good fight but is aware that the Shadow side is always there, waiting to claim her.

Now the time has come for the third sign of the Zodiac. The first sign was the unveiling of the Kairos, Joanna. The second sign, a plague. The third is the awakening of the Kairos' dormant side. Some, including the Tulpa, Joanna's demon father, have interpreted this to mean that Joanna's Shadow side is due to make an appearance. Again, the Tulpa offers her a place at his side. Again, she refuses him and opts to retain her role as the Archer in the Light Zodiac.

Now someone, or rather something, new has come to town. Someone even her father fears. A double-walker, or doppelganger, walks the streets of Vegas, and she appears to be the mirror image of Joanna. The evil twin means to become corporeal and will stop at nothing to realize her plan.

The Troop now sets its sites on two clear enemies, the Tulpa with his dark Zodiac of Shadow minions and the doppelganger. The Tulpa, on the other hand, suggests that the two sides work together to eliminate the doppelganger, who he feels is as much a danger to the Shadow agents as to the Troop. There's twisted logic to the Tulpa's plan, but Joanna can't help but feel her father has an agenda of his own and that "working together" is really "Tulpa-speak" for working for him. This is one of those times when there's no good decision to be made. Whichever path she decides to take presents a risk to her, the Troop and the city of Las Vegas.

Summer really heats up this May 27th with the publication of THE TOUCH OF TWILIGHT, the third installment of Peterson's dark fantasy series.
