The only rule I have for the Holidays is, I buy for no one(in the extended family) over the age of eighteen. Of course, that does not include my son and his wife. I always buy books for me for my birthay and Christmas(they are only a week apart).I always pray that Christine Feehen, Iris Johansen, Sherilyn Kenyon and Julie Garwood have new books out.

I have read all her in death books and can't wait for this one. My library does not even have this one but then they are in the process of almost finishing building a new library. I have enough books that I am content to wait for this one. I have Dan Brown's latest on reserve and I can pick it up monday.

I do enjoy long running series so long as the writing and stories stay fresh. There have been instances when I have followed a series and a story has seemed somewhat like a previous installment. That is where my interest wanes.

Yes, I like long running series! Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series, Robyn Carr the Virgin River books & Suzanne Brockmann are authors that come to mind with long running series I love! For some reason I tend to get hooked on series or connected books.
Though I love Nora I do not read J.D. Robb, I read the first two books a long time ago but they just didn't work for me. That was a disappointment. Maybe I should try again.

I enjoy series, seeing how the characters change and grow and I still enjoy Dallas from the in death series; in fact I just bought the book today and have started reading it. Yes some of the books can be a little less entertaining than previous ones but all in all they are always entertaining.

I like long-running series as long as they stay fresh and don't 'jump the shark'. There have been some series I quit on in the past because they had really run their course or I was so behind on the books and wanted to move on to other things. Now I mostly stay away from starting new series.

I love to read series as you can explore how they connect and came to be.. I have read over 82 of Nora's books and over 6 JD Robb and still looking for more. I try the library first then used book store then online..Keep up the good writing..Now that I am retired I can read more..LOL.. I also like Fern Michales and her Sisterhood series..

I do enjoy the long series. The characters become friends. You see how they grow and how their lives change, but, as in real life, friendships end. I have had to adjust my reading habits as have many of my friends.

J. D. Robb's In Death Series is one of the very few long series that I still read if I can the second it's released. I bought the ebook and downloaded it immediately! Usually I peter out of long series by book 8 or so but this one has held my interest for many years. In fact, I got my brother and father! hooked on it as well.

I love series (whether long or semi-short) because I like the interconnected characters but I prefer series that,while interconnected, don't HAVE to be read in order. I agree that sometimes it gets irritating to have to wait for the next book to come out! I get so into the story and then, boom!, I have to wait months for the next one! This is especially irritating to me because I have an awful memory and often forget either to get the next book when it finally does come out or forget what happened before and then need to re-read the earlier books before I can truly get into the new one! While I (of course) keep the entire series fully intending to read them again, it does (like others mentioned) make it difficult to find new authors or make a dent in my TBR list to have go through this at times. hope it never ends. I only
started this series about 18
months ago. Once I had the
first 8 books, I starting
reading them in bulk. I made
sure that at each time I
started the series again I had
at least 4 more. Once you
start them you can't put them
down. I love the idea of visiting with old friends and
seeing what everyone has
gotten up to since the last
time I saw them. I don't see
them as characters in a book
but old friends.

gets slow or repetitive, then
I have had to say good-bye to
some of them over the years
because of the writing, while
others I will stay with. Like
The Dragon Riders Series, I

I enjoy series books. It's like having a friend come to visit. I also wait for the 50% off coupon at Borders to get the books - or wait for paperback. Our local library is in financial trouble and when I buy a hardback book I donate it to the library when I am finished reading it.

I love series books, Stephanie Plum, Robyn Carr's Virgin River, Catherine Coulter's FBI series,Beverly Barton's Protectors' Series, Stephanie Bond's Body Movers.....this way you can find out what happens to the other characters in the book.

I've enjoyed Stephanie Laurens Bastion Club series which, while there weren't a lot of books, stretched out over four years. I also enjoyed the Becketts of Romney Marsh which also stretched over many years. The only trouble with long-running series is that by the time I get to the end, I have trouble remembering the details of the earlier books.

Holds are down a little at our library,
but I don't think is is so much the
price of the book as much as the fact
that people seem to be really busy.
We are a small library with a small
budget. We get only one copy of a
book. Usually some one will donate a
second copy of the best sellers so the
waiting time is reduced a little.
I like series and will follow them as
long as the characters and the plot
line stay fresh.

I do like reading series books and have all of the "In Death" series by Robb. I even started buying HB because I couldn't wait for PB! I am a little disappointed in the new one, "Kindred in Death." However, I'll keep reading them,'cause I do like Eve Dallas and Roark. I got this one from Amazon for $9; otherwise, I'd have tried Half-Price Books in a few weeks.
