In PLEASE ENJOY YOUR STAY by Tara
Goedjen, an old castle in the Austrian Alps, an infamous
murder case tied to a true-crime writer, and a new podcast
threatening to expose a miscarriage of justice set in motion
a new push to find the truth.
Mia lost her mother at twelve before she went to live
with her aunt Iris and cousin Tristan in London. Iris was a
famous true-crime writer and took her family to the Austrian
Alps to write about the murder of a young heiress at the
castle. During their stay, teenage Tristan interned as a
journalist and pushed the boundaries of his independence.
After a fight with his mother, he was found dead at the hot
springs, and the only eyewitness was thirteen-year-old Mia.
Now a true-crime podcast is revisiting the case and
suggesting that the man who is behind bars was mistakenly
identified by Mia. Rumors swirl about Miaβs aunt, and
in an effort to protect her aunt, Mia takes a job as a nanny
for the hotelβs new owner. Mia is hiding her identity,
and being back at the castle with some of the same staff is
harrowing. As she searches for the truth down darkened
hallways and closed-off wings, Mia learns more about her
aunt and cousin during that fateful summer. Now itβs
hard to distinguish fact from fiction. As Miaβs stay
comes to an end, will she uncover the truth? Or will the
truth lead to her demise?
PLEASE ENJOY YOUR STAY is a
thrilling mystery set at an old castle being renovated into
a luxury resort. Within its walls lie the secrets behind the
murder of Miaβs cousin, and the violent murders of an
heiress and her husband. The castle is a character in
itself, and it has not been kind to its inhabitants. As Mia
revisits the past, she views those events through the eyes
of her adult self. From hidden cluesβa black binder,
an old cell phone, and a lost manuscriptβMia starts
seeing things differently. The plot moves swiftly with
intensity, and the hotel staff creates several moments of
menace and uncertainty that heighten the mystery. The author
does a good job of providing misdirection and leading the
plot in a way that feels fluid and revelatory. With the
ominous feeling of the castle, the ghost sightings, the
black ravens, the angst over a missing hiker, and the
continuous threat of Mia being exposed, the novel feels like
a gothic-style thriller.Β PLEASE ENJOY YOUR
STAY is highly entertaining all the way to the
climactic ending, where the true killer is revealed and Mia
battles for her life with the help of a surprising ally.
