Book three in the Miss Sharp Investigates series is packed with madcap mystery fun as a group of Sunset Hall elderly residents prepares for the wedding of their dear housemate, Bernadette. Agnes, a former police officer, is feeling a little down at losing one of her housemates, and when a cryptic message arrives concerning the wedding, Agnes goes on high alert to protect the bride and groom in AGNES SHARP AND THE WEDDING TO DIE FOR by Leonie Swann.
Bernadette is marrying Jack, a former organized crime contract killer, whom she recently reconnected with during a holiday. The wedding plans kick into high gear when an opening at the Foxglove Manor is suddenly available. The manor is the premier place to have a wedding, and Agnes and the group start planning a minimum of twenty-guest list. As Charlie searches for guests and dates on the internet, Agnes rounds out the list with the gardener, a former burglar, and a private investigator. When everything seems to be going well, a threatening note arrives at Sunset House, and all bets are off. Who is threatening the bride and/or groom? And why can’t Agnes forget the death of the Verger several months before? Will Agnes and her group put all the pieces together and identify the culprit before the big day turns into a deadly disaster?
AGNES SHARP AND THE WEDDING TO DIE FOR is so much fun. This ragtag group of elderly people is living out their remaining years together with bravado and purpose. Agnes is sharp, feisty, and protective as she tracks down the clues and deals with her fellow residents. She’s engaged, sort of, to Marshall, her biggest fan. But Agnes finds it hard to answer to anyone and gets herself into many precarious situations. Whether she’s infiltrating the Knitwits knitting group, tracking down a youth worker, sneaking into the Verger’s house, rifling through a houseguest's luggage, identifying a hitman, finding a body at a bus stop, hiding a body in a maze, or marrying off her friend, Agnes does it with style. This mystery has many twists and turns, and it is a calamity of body disposal, questionable actions, and blowing everything up. Throw in a turtle, a boa constrictor, and a wolfhound, and you have a household of residents as wacky as they are fun. The writing is witty, the dialogue flows easily, and the plotting is perfectly paced with short action-filled chapters. In the end, Agnes and her friends go out with a bang in this laugh- out-loud, amusing series. AGNES SHARP AND THE WEDDING TO DIE FOR is madcap fun at its finest.
