YOU CAN SCREAM is Rebecca Zanetti’s fifth in the Laurel Snow series. For a little background, Laurel is a child prodigy who started college at 11 and holds a number of degrees. Her biggest problem is that she really does not fit into the world and misses out on some of the more common signals in society. But to her credit, she is learning and has opened up to her Wild Life Captain Huck Rivers, who wants a life with her and is extremely careful with her. Not pushing for more than she can give. This couple has come a long way, even though there is only a little romance to go along with the danger and drama.
As with all of Ms. Zanetti’s other offerings in the series, we are given a lot of tension and excitement as Laurel, Huck and her team work through the mystery and intrigue that seems to find them. YOU CAN SCREAM is well written in a way that pulls you along without hesitation through all the plot twists, though sometimes expected outcomes. The supporting characters are back and give Laurel the backing she expects and the camaraderie that she is learning to accept.
My only thought that might be found as negative was that there seemed to be too many things going on at once, and I found myself a bit confused. Usually, after I stopped my speed reading and slowed down, I got back into the rhythm of the various twists.
