Rosie Kinsella has a great job, showing clients around swanky houses in London. She also posts on her successful Instagram account. Somewhere along the way, she gains the unwanted attention of a person who says he follows YOUR EVERY MOVE. The rest of her office team, Grace, Nick and even their boss, Yaraslava Kavalenko, are shocked when they learn that someone called Michael is sending unwanted gifts, photos and texts to their staff member. But work is work, and they can’t let it interfere with the multimillion-pound job of selling homes to Russian buyers with ready cash. Yes, that does seem odd, but estate agents Sterling & Co. would have to report any suspicious activity to the authorities, so it must be all fine. Many firms have a no-social-media policy for staff, but not this one. Michael escalates quickly to the level of a stalker by sending Rosie a photo of her front door. He’s following her home? This book will come across quite differently to people in America, who may not know that in London it’s illegal to carry weapons for protection, even a can of pepper spray. I feel it should have been made clearer that Rosie would break the law by doing this, even though her stalker could potentially be willing to harm her. This is why a weapon doesn’t get a mention. The police are sympathetic but don’t actually do much or provide useful advice. From the Tube to a big house in Hampstead, anyone Rosie sees could be the nutcase. I found this a quick read, because I have zero interest in posts on Instagram, where Rosie, incredibly, starts documenting what is happening to her. She is clearly just feeding the ego of this nutter. I don’t see why she keeps letting everyone know where she is and what she’s doing. She should have immediately suspected her accounts were hacked and her phone was tracked – anything like that. Rosie adds posts about the statistics of women who have been stalked, and what kind of men psychologists say do the deed. If this account speaks to other women who have had bad experiences, I hope they will find the text helpful. As YOUR EVERY MOVE is a psychological chiller, I just got on with suspecting everyone in sight, which is what these books encourage. Sam Blake is an Irish woman who has written a series of police procedurals and standalone thrillers. This lets her explore new locations and topics. YOUR EVERY MOVE covers a difficult and sensitive theme while building on character and atmosphere.
