No pun intended but PITCHER PERFECT is a perfect example of friendship, fellowship, joy, commitment, competition, love and more. Truly Tessa Bailey outdid herself with the characters she created for PITCHER PERFECT. And for fans that is saying a lot.
So we have two pretty amazing athletes, both of whose careers are enmeshed in quite different sports. Skylar is a competitive softball pitcher who played through her academic stay at Boston University. Always somewhat feeling like a disappointment to her family who were all Brown graduates. Families are funny that way. Legacy is important. Robbie is a professional hockey player who is still at the stage garnering respect from his more senior teammates. Lots of laughs and good times. Such is the life of young career athletes.
They meet at a somewhat friendly game between the hockey and baseball players. Skylar’s brother is a member of the baseball team. So she is brought along to pitch. Lots of smack talk among these guys practically forgetting that there was a lady present. But Skylar was not a wilting flower – she gave as good as she got. But there definitely was an edge in the exchange between Skylar and Robbie.
In fact, it was during their initial meeting that they had adopted nicknames for each other. Robbi became Redbeard, a natural take on his coloring, and Skylar was Rocket.
That’s when all the fun begins. The pull and tug between attraction and revulsion is a challenging way to begin a relationship. Initially, Rocket and Redbeard were just trying to be civil and friendly. But this is Tessa Bailey. So the games were on.
The real game was to help Skylar AKA Rocket try to catch the eye of the young man who had been her crushed forever. They could seem to jump past the friend’s stage. Skylar was certain that she just didn’t have what it takes to attract guys. Robbie couldn’t have disagreed more heartedly.
The supporting cast is also primo in PITCHER PERFECT. Dialog is crisp and engaging. And the pages practically steam up from all the sexy, sassy interchanges between the stars of this tale. PITCHER PERFECT is seriously a joyful romp that you won’t be able to put down. Enjoy.
