JULIE TUDOR IS NOT A PSYCHOPATH is the most unhinged and yet oddly compelling book I’ve ever read. From the very first sentence of the prologue, the reader knows that this story is going to go badly astray from romance- and boy, does it wander off into the irrational fantasies of 49-year-old Julie Tudor. Julie thinks she is in love and that her 25-year-old work colleague, Sean, reciprocates her love. Julie plans her days, nights, weekends, and even meals around the fantasy of Sean appearing on her doorstep… only Sean finds himself a girlfriend instead. Someone who is definitely NOT Julie Tudor. I shouldn’t have liked JULIE TUDOR IS NOT A PSYCHOPATH. Normally, I veer away from outrageous depictions of mental illness, and I tend to sympathize with middle-aged women in particular. However, Jennifer Holdich crafts a tale that is as captivating as it is disturbing. We don’t have any real surprises (the prologue tells us just how far Julie will take things), and yet it’s impossible to put JULIE TUDOR IS NOT A PSYCHOPATH down… and Julie herself is the reason. Julie is most definitely a psychopath! Her view of reality is drastically skewed, and yet it’s hard not to wonder at times if she could be picking up on romantic vibes from Sean. Yes, she’s THAT committed to her perceptions, and Jennifer Holdich does a marvelous job at drawing us into the twisted reality that Julie lives in. However, Julie’s backstory offers us quite the tale of obsessions and delusions, but even then, it’s impossible to turn away from the train wreck that is Julie’s world. JULIE TUDOR IS NOT A PSYCHOPATH is one of those odd books that defies both logic and genre to work- and what a story it is! This is Jennifer Holdich’s first book, and I can’t wait to read her next, MR. AND MRS. DIXON HIDE A BODY, as I can only imagine the craziness she has in store for us!
Julie Tudor is not a psychopath.
Julie Tudor is 49 and has it all: a fantastic job (well-maintained spreadsheets are the lynchpin of an efficient office), a beautiful house (some may wonder how she got the money for it, but nothing has been proved) and the man of her dreams.
Julie Tudor is not a stalker.
Sean is 25 and the love of Julie\'s life. The only problem is, he thinks he\'s in love with someone else.
And Julie Tudor is definitely, definitely not a serial killer.
But Julie has found herself in a similar situation before. And if there\'s one thing Julie knows, it\'s how to get rid of the competition...
After all, what\'s a little murder in the name of true love?
