Reality TV has drawn six pairs of people together to
compete in a global scavenger hunt. Each brings his or her
own issues to the contest, which will push already strained
relationships over the edge and reveal secrets that could
destroy lives.
A highlight of some of the characters:
First, meet Laura and Cassie, mother and teenage daughter.
They have a secret that caused their relationship to fall
apart and mother Laura, at least, hopes the chance to
compete for big bucks will bring them back together. But
Cassie knows that she spilled the beans during their
initial TV interview and that the secret is the only reason
they were selected to participate. What will happen when
that painful event becomes public?
Next are Carl and Jeff, newly divorced brothers who are
determined to treat the trip as one big "meet a woman"
event. When the game takes a twist, Carl ends up spending a
lot of time with Laura -- and suddenly the money doesn't
seem so important.
Then there's Justin and Abby, who definitely add drama to
the book. A conservative married couple, they proclaim
their religion far and wide, with a particular focus on
homosexuality. Both were homosexual, but used religion
to "do what is right," and stop living that lifestyle. What
challenges could they possibly face in a situation designed
to put pressure on people?
There are more characters, but I'll let you meet them in
the pages of LOST AND FOUND. This book is interesting -- the
concept makes you think fun and lighthearted, and it is
anything but. The intensity of emotions swirling around
these characters provokes feelings of sadness and deep
hurt. I like the way each section was told from a different
character's viewpoint, a tactic that gave depth to the
drama. A very well done, emotional look at who we are
inside and what happens when those inner secrets spew out.
New from the author of the New York Times bestseller, The
Dogs of Babel, seven unlikely couples scour the globe
searching for love, treasure, fame, family--and
themselves--in an astonishing new novel.
Seven oddly matched pairs--a mother and daughter, two
business partners, two flight attendants, a born-again
Christian couple, two former child stars, and other unlikely
couples--are thrown together to compete in a high-stakes,
televised contest. It is the new reality show, Lost and
Found, a global scavenger hunt whose initial purpose is
entertainment, but with each challenge, the drama builds as
the number of players is whittled down.
Laura signed on to try to reconnect with her recalcitrant
teenage daughter, Cassie. But Cassie knows they were only
selected because of a secret she hides, one the show's
producers hope will be revealed as the pressures of the
competition mount. Justin and Abby aim to use the
million-dollar prize to spread their message of faith, but
they soon find the game putting their marriage to the test.
Juliet and Dallas, deep in the "where-are-they-now" stage of
stardom, just hope to spark some life back into their
flagging careers.
But as the game escalates, tensions mount, temptations
beckon, and the bonds between teammates begin to fray. The
question is not only who will capture the final prize, but
at what cost?
