Farah is a wood elf who has been undercover as a Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) agent for too long and is getting burned out and perhaps damaged beyond repair until an explosion nearly ends her life. Looking for her sister who disappeared years ago, she finds herself among other elves, shadow people and others who are dealing in slavery. She is about to become the STORM WOOD elf to end the Masters and their big plan.
Rohan is a human, forced leader of his village after his father’s death. He is seeking his kidnapped sister and will do anything and use anyone to rescue her. Even breaching the walls of the Masters city of Mortham but he knows he needs help. Help he might not be able to trust fully but his sister needs saving.
STORM WOOD is a fantasy and the third of author Donna Grant’s Elven Kingdom. It can be read as a stand-alone as Ms. Grant does well in giving information that makes a story flow easily for the reader. I will warn readers that STORM WOOD is part fantasy, part romance and part darkness that will have you wondering what else could be wrong with this world. Though magic fills the air there is quite a bit of it that is used for evil.
Rohan is a human who will do whatever he has to do for his family – not always blood family but those of the heart. He is losing people to abduction and slavery and wants it to end before he loses anyone else. Farah a wood elf who has searched for her sister with single-minded determination but is strangely sidetracked by a human male with green/gray eyes. Unfortunately, she finds out later that he was the cause of the explosion that injured her. He takes her to his village and helps her heal, but his true purpose is to get her back to the city and rescue his sister. There is not a lot of trust between them, but soon they are headed back and the dangers they face make it necessary to work together to survive. Trust is learned, friendship grows, and love follows. The romance is really not the center of this story, it is, in my opinion, the growth of the pair in question as they become a couple that will keep readers enthralled.
STORM WOOD is a very twisted story, and those twists continue to the end. The action, dialogue, and descriptions of the world this couple inhabits are vivid and entertaining. Be prepared for the surprises that fill this book. As you will find one heart will be broken and one thrilled with life. You will have to read STORM WOOD to see what happens.
I never wanted to fall in love. My sister’s disappearance damaged me for such things. I’ve devoted my life finding her—no matter where that leads me.
I could never have imagined it would bring me to him. A human with haunting celadon eyes and a determination that rivals my own. He’s strong, brash, and gorgeous.
Maybe that’s why I was caught off guard when he acknowledged that I was a covert agent. It’s a secret few know, and if word gets out, I’m as good as dead.
Too much rides on my identity remaining hidden. I have no choice but to help him navigate the perilous depths of the Below—and all who reside there.
But the lines that were once so vivid between us slowly begin to blur. We have only each other to survive and trusting him with my life is one thing. With my heart…that’s something I can’t even consider.
Yet, I can’t stop wondering what his lips would feel like against mine. I can’t help the ache I feel to be near him. And I can lie to him, but not myself. I crave his hard body next to me.
I never wanted to fall in love…but he stole my heart before I had a chance to safeguard it.
Now fate is pulling us apart, but I intend to fight for him. For us.
Even if it means my death.
