Who doesn’t love a good unreliable narrator?  Well, Florence Grimes is unreliable alright, but not in the way you might initially think.  She is an absolute hot mess of a 31-year-old.  She parties, leaves her young son home alone at questionable hours, doesn’t hold down a 9 to 5 job, and is primarily occupied with trying to relive her long-gone heyday.  It’s no wonder all the other mothers hate her.  To make matters worse, a child at her son Dylan’s elite private school has gone missing, and signs point to the fact that dear, sweet Dylan may have had something to do with it.  Sarah Harman’s ALL THE OTHER MOTHERS HATE ME follows Florence as she races to get to the bottom of it in hopes of proving her son’s innocence… or manufacturing it.   Fans of works like Big Little Lies, The Maid, or Bad Moms will find plenty to like in ALL THE OTHER MOTHERS HATE ME.  Harman’s writing is bold, fresh, and fast-paced.  Florence quickly becomes your wildly inappropriate best friend who says the thing out loud that everyone else is thinking but would never dare utter.  Amateur detective work, a healthy dose of dry humor, and enough twists to thrill you come together to pack a punch in Harman’s debut novel.  Harman deftly balances this humor with heft, ultimately weaving together a tale that is exciting, entertaining, and certain to generate strong reactions to the dynamic and imperfect personalities afoot.    If you are an avid thriller or mystery reader, you will find Harman’s ALL THE OTHER MOTHERS HATE ME to be such a satisfying read.  Harman drops enough breadcrumbs throughout the novel that you can sleuth right alongside Florence, but maintains some big surprises that are sure to leave you shocked at the very end.  Book clubs will also enjoy this novel – it’s certain to spark lively discussions about Florence’s choices and repeated mom fails.  On the whole, this is a great choice for your next read when you want to hear from a new and unique voice that breaks the mold!
