High school reunions can go several different ways and bring many surprises. The ten-year reunion of the 2014 graduating class of Tisdale Comprehensive was no exception. THE REUNION, by Beth Reekles, is told by multiple voices of the attendees who were put into the following categories: Most Likely To End Up Together, Most Likely To Become Famous, Most Likely To Succeed and my personal favorite: Most Likely To Kill Each Other.
Whether readers have been to a high school reunion or not, there is much about this story that is relatable. The characters are totally believable because many of us have known people just like them. Ten years can bring about many changes and that is what is put forth in this narrative. Did that couple end up together? Who succeeded and did anyone become famous? And what about those two who were at each other throats for years?
The characters are expertly drawn and their stories are compelling. Their voices and dialogue are candid and often witty. The power of the narrative comes from how they relate to each other. They surprise each other for a number of reasons. Perhaps most important is what they learn about themselves.
Filled with heavy emotions and memorable happenings, THE REUNION is well worth reading. Highly recommended.
