Enchanting. That’s how you immediately feel when you start UNRAVEL ME book number three in the Playing For Keeps series by Becka Mack. So far this series has amassed a vast group of characters that touch your heart while tickling your funny bone. And some would say add a lot of sass and sex to the mix as well this series centers on hockey players and their search for that someone special. Some don’t readily accept the existence of that search but most important is the final chapters where love wins.
Hockey is a tough sport. It requires tough guys who seem not to mind being broadsided and ending up crushed on the boards. The fans adore this and the players have to jump back hopefully without any permanent injuries.
In UNRAVEL ME we meet Rosie whose goal is to become a vet. She loves animals and spends many hours as a volunteer at an animal shelter. As a dog lover shelter dogs hold a special part of my heart. We actually have three rescue dogs in our family. So, we are empathetic to the cause.
But there is an important message in UNRAVEL ME and that is acceptance, privacy, and love. Adam is a star athlete in his prime, not only highly regarded as the goaltender of the Vipers but with a huge salary to boot. In short, he is a hot commodity, not only to the team and hockey league but to women. It seems everyone wants a piece of Adam, and he has a reputation as a serial dater. In reality, his love life is a series of disappointments. His one long-term relationship went south when she was caught with another man. Trust went south along with that betrayal.
Adam meets Rosie quite accidentally. The more time they spend together the easier their relationship becomes. There is much to like about Rosie. She is kind, loving, engaging and beautiful. Rosie has had a tough life. She has lost people most important to her. She is left looking for someone to make her feel loved and important once again.
Both Adam and Rosie are holding pieces of themselves in abeyance, a sort of protection. Those pieces hold the key to why they are equally reluctant to totally open up about any feelings. So far Adam has been able to keep the real world at a distance. It’s off-season so his hockey life can be pushed aside. But pretty soon that is going to change, and Adam is going to have to take control if he hopes his future has a place in Rosie’s life.
Lots at stake here. There are many poignant moments in UNRAVEL ME. UNRAVEL ME is perhaps the most revealing of the Playing For Keeps series thus far. Becka Mack has made Adam and Rosie more complicated and multidimensional in their lives and loves. The reader definitely feels more invested in the outcome. The background stories of Adam and Rosie are compelling. Once again UNRAVEL ME definitely stands alone but reading the series in order makes the characters more real and interesting. Dialog continues to make you laugh and sigh. Becka Mack has a knack for texting and sexting for sure. Pure entertainment.
In the sizzling hockey romance that has taken TikTok by storm, the star goalie discovers the family he’s always wanted when he falls in love with a single mother.
“Mack proves it is in fact always the quiet ones. Another deliciously sexy and honest story of friendship, family, and falling in love.” —Hannah Grace, New York Times bestselling author of Wildfire and Icebreaker
The third book in the globally popular Playing for Keeps series.
Can he leave the past behind to forge the future he’s always wanted?
When it comes to dating, Adam Lockwood wouldn’t know luck if it hit him in the face. After a failed relationship and a string of dates gone wrong, the thought of being vulnerable with someone is terrifying—most women only see his fame. But when his dog runs into Rosie Wells, a beautiful woman with a blush as pink as her hair, she doesn’t seem to have a clue who he is, and Adam seizes the opportunity as a chance to finally be himself.
Rosie has her hands full as a single mother and fourth-year veterinary student, and she certainly wouldn’t know a hockey player if she ran into one. She doesn’t have time to date, and she’s fiercely protective of her little family. But when a chance encounter leads her to Adam, she knows it’s worth risking her heart.
The only problem? Adam is used to wearing a mask—he’s a goalie, after all. And as he holds onto a secret that threatens to unravel him and destroy his new family, they’re both at risk of losing more than ever before.
Unravel Me contains emotional references to the past death of parents and its surrounding grief, as well as brief discussions of foster care, depictions of child neglect (not by the main character), and the death of an animal (minimal descriptions and as it pertains to the FMC’s training as a veterinarian student; not main character’s pet). If you are sensitive to these subjects, please use this information to make an informed decision about whether to proceed with this story.
