What a hoot combining two entertaining elements in one book. Hockey and Romantic Comedy. That’s basically what Becka Mack does in her new series. CONSIDER ME has a cast of amazing characters that keep your attention throughout. I feel confident that these characters just might become some of your favorites. Lots of angst is thrown in as we are asked not to judge why some seem less than confident. People generally react to situations in many diverse ways. And Becka Mack’s characters certainly do.
Take Carter Beckett for example. He is captain of a Canadian major league hockey team. Huge tough guy. Great with his teammates. Loves his family. A mouth like a toilet. Keeps a condominium downtown for his one-night stands. Totally commitment phobic.
But you see Carter has a huge heart. He takes care of people in his life and that includes his teammates.
Enter Olivia Parker. High school gym instructor. Where Carter is tall and built like a wall, Olivia is diminutive and curvy. Candidly she is rather taken aback by this guy who seems to have no filter or scruples it would seem. But don’t let the first impression put you off.
So we have lots of descriptive personal scenes that give a clear picture of how attracted these two are to each other. Olivia has been warned about Carter’s reputation with the ladies. Carter has been told hands-off by Olivia’s best friend.
The dialog is fast and curiously funny. Carter's mouth definitely spouts some shocking conversation bits. But it is done in good spirits. His mother has a curse jar just begging for Carter’s contributions. His sister enjoys egging him on.
Where Carter has lots of confidence, that’s where he differs from Olivia who shies away from relationships. She lacks confidence in her appearance and her height deficit. So of course she is taken aback by any attention thrown her way by this tall, muscular, cursing hockey star.
Raw, poignant, sexually explicit, heart-rendering, romantic comedy from an author who figured out to make these ingredients into a laugh-aloud heartwarming story about folks with flaws and a huge heart. CONSIDER ME is the first of a four-book series by Becka Mack. I’m onto book number two with lofty expectations. Definitely should be read in order as the character lineup is connected. But either book can easily stand alone. Bring a fan and totally expect to break out in smiles and laughs as Becka Mack does her magic.
I am a huge fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips whose series of books starring a football team remains at the top of my list. Becka Mack‘s series brings to life her hockey team with an added element of steamy sex. Enough to melt the ice.
