Book number eight in the BLADE’S END is self-published by Shiloh Walker, written under her pen name of J.C. Daniels. This is a short ebook novel, 250 pages in length. The Colbana Files urban fantasy series started in 2011. The last Colbana Files book, Blooded Blade (#7), was written 2 years ago, and book 6 Haunted Blade was published way back in 2017. The author has done Patreon campaigns to monetarily support finishing the series. I loved this series back when it was going full steam, and signed up to be a Patreon backer because I wanted the series to continue. It’s been so long since I read these books, however, that I found myself a bit disconnected when reading BLADE’S END now.
Kit Colbana is a half-human, half-Aneira assassin and kick-butt UF warrior heroine. She’s a mouthy badass, my favorite kind of heroine! Kit has created a found family, with her lover Damon, the Alpha of the Southern Cat Clans. Daniels set this story arc in a paranormal world where shifters, vampires and witches live, yet Kit is somehow the most dangerous of them all.
Kit is using her magical powers to track down Madae, an ancient entity that has haunted Kit’s people through the ages, stealing and discarding bodies once she's worn them out. Creepy, right?! Kit was supposed to be Madae’s next body-snatching target, but she fought to avoid her grisly fate. As revenge, Madae attacked Kit’s cousin Doyle instead. Now Kit and Damon are fighting for their lives and their love.
Conceptually, I’m sad to see this series end because I loved it so much when it was going strong. There has been such a long hiatus between stories, though, that my memory of the storyline and my interest in the characters has waned. Hardcore fans will probably be glad to have the series wrapped up. As usual, there is lots of angst and action in this urban fantasy world. BLADE’S END closes Kit Colbana’s adventures out with a bang.
Kit and her lover, Damon, the Alpha of the Southern Cat Clans, are hot on the trail of Madae, an ancient entity that has haunted Kit’s people through the ages, stealing and discarding bodies once she's worn them out.
Kit was supposed to be the next target, but she proved to be tougher than Madae expected. As both an act of revenge and expediency, Madae went for the next nearest of kin, Kit's cousin, Doyle.
Earth-shattering truths are revealed and secrets laid bare, including secrets that threaten the love between Kit and Damon, and their very lives.
They're determined to find Madae and save Doyle. But will those secrets drive them apart? Will those secrets drive them mad? And when they find themselves confronting not one ancient evil, but two, will Kit and Damon be strong enough to save Doyle? Or will one of them pay the ultimate price?
