Finally my very first Poppy Alexander story! My goodness, why did I wait so long to read this author? STORYBOOK ENDING had me giggling so many times. Poppy Alexander has a great sense of humor and it really came out in this book. Imogen is recently widowed and is moving to the countryside from London. It is there where she meets her grumpy neighbor Gabriel. Even though Imogen drives Gabriel crazy, he is constantly coming to her rescue. As the two of them get to know each other, readers will find themselves smiling and giggling over and over.
Before Nigel died, he purchased a cottage in Middlemass. It was Gabriel's grandmother who lived in the cottage that Imogen is now the owner of. STORYBOOK ENDING has many twists and turns and it captured my attention as well as my heart from the very first page. Imogen's journey is an amazing one. Not only is she newly widowed, she discovers she is pregnant. Living in the city, she never had a car. But now in the country, she must learn to drive. Guess who gives her driving lessons? Yup, Gabriel and the two of them in the car are hysterical.
While dealing with all of this, Imogen is also trying to track down Nigel's possible mistress. She came across a note from a woman to her husband while cleaning out some of his papers. Will Imogen be able to get her STORYBOOK ENDING or will she lose her cottage and her sanity thanks to a secret Gabriel is keeping from her? You are going to have to read this wonderful story to find out. You will get no spoilers from me. Grab your copy and get on the couch!
From the author of The Littlest Library—a heartwarming novel about a widowed children’s book author who moves into a cottage in the English countryside and finds herself face-to-face with the handsome and brooding blacksmith who lives next door.
In her books she can write “happily ever after”— but real life? That’s another matter…
For children’s book author Imogen, an idyllic life in the English countryside seems like the perfect fit for her and her husband. But when tragedy strikes, Imogen is left widowed, and finds herself moving into Storybook Cottage alone with only her monstrously narcissistic cat for company.
After discovering she is pregnant, Imogen grows determined to embrace a new start in Middlemass, with its duckpond, cricket matches and village fêtes. The only thing Imogen can’t seem to shake is her neighbor—a brooding, artisan blacksmith named Gabriel—who she can’t quite decide is friend or foe. That is until she realizes, thanks to an arcane clause in her deeds, that Gabriel— not just an artist, but lord of the local manor house— has the power to take her home and leave her completely broke.
Devastatingly, he seems keen to do exactly that. Yet, Imogen finds herself drawn to him nonetheless. And in her darkest hour, Gabriel may just be the bright spot to save Imogen in more ways than one.
