WOW! What else can be said about ONE CURSED ROSE written by Rebecca Zanetti? A futuristic play on the Beauty and the Beast fairytale this is a steamy, dark and riveting read with diverse and intriguing personalities. Alana has her head on straight and knows what she wants and doesn’t want and sooner or later that want is Thorn. He is a dark and dangerous man who feels nothing (part of that is due to a virus that is slowly freezing him – read ONE CURSED ROSE to understand what I mean). He is also very obsessed with and protective of Alana and is a personality that might make him an anti-hero and I am guessing you would not be exactly wrong. But as you read on the conversations and dialogue between these two and with various other characters will give you much insight into who they really are. Doesn’t make him less of an unabashed killer but he does come off as more redeemable.
Also added to the drama is a mystery of the “accident” (pre-book) that cost Alana her brother and she never believed the verdict. There is also an ongoing investigation into a serial killer who is targeting women who look a lot like Alana and this person comes as quite a surprise.
The only complaint I had about this amazing book was that I didn’t quite understand the crystals and how they worked. I got that each media group had various crystals (rubies, emeralds, diamonds, etc.) that powered them. I hope in the future we get a concise explanation of this process. This, of course, is not important to the pure enjoyment of ONE CURSED ROSE it is just one thing that had me pondering over when I could have just enjoyed the darkly suspenseful depth of it all, as I know fans will.
