Daphne McFadden wrote a zombie survival novel. However, after getting rejected by an agent several times, she decides to change her approach. She creates a fake name (a manβs name) and takes out any reference to teen characters and romance in her cover letter. Sheβs stunned to discover that these three changes land her not only an agent but a major publishing deal.
For the author photo, Daphne hires a man (Chris) to play the author. Everything seems great. The publisher is heavily marketing this book and the readers are gobbling it up. Thereβs just one little snag - they want Daphne (Zane) to film an interview.
Chris agrees to be the author for the interview, but neither he nor Daphne imagines that a video of him and a bear will go viral. Now everyoneβs clamoring for more Zane. When someone drops out of an author festival, Daphneβs publishers are able to get her a spot. Itβs great exposure, but Daphne knows itβs only a matter of time before her secret comes out.
FINDING MR.WRITE is not your typical Kelley Armstrong book- there are no supernatural elements here. Instead, there is a cute dog, terrible neighbors, and two people struggling to keep one very large secret. This book is mostly set in the wilds of Canada; there are some wildlife moments. Since Daphne and Chris are forced to spend time together while keeping a huge secret from the world, they start bonding and sharing intimate details of their lives. Sparks fly. Β The whole book centers on gender norms and how society and publishing views men and women differently. It may not be the authorβs normal genre, but she knocks this rom-com out of the park.
