If you aren’t familiar with Laura Griffin and her numerous books, where have you been? LIAR’S POINT is the fifth book in the Texas Murder Files series and continues to stand up to the level of creativity we expect to see from Laura.
Nicole Lawson has been working in the field of homicide for about ten years and has been working alongside her sexy co-worker, Emmett Davis, for Lost Beach PD. Being a woman in a male-dominated career definitely has its impact on Nicole as she fights for every case. When a woman is found in her car of apparent suicide, something about the scene doesn’t add up. The witness is not being truthful and a string of coincidences set off Nicole’s sixth sense.
Overall, the plot is done well and the twists and turns are there. However, I have read many of Laura’s books and I found that the use of multiple perspectives was a bit distracting. Typically, we would see the two love interests and the villain or killer, in this case, have their own perspectives, but this book added several that I felt were unnecessary. It didn't take anything from the plot or the story but it did make things a bit more convoluted.
If you’re looking for a read that has some spicy scenes and a hardcore male counterpart to a female heroine, then this is the book for you. I look forward to seeing how the other characters and their stories come to light in the future.
Two homicide detectives must separate the puzzling truth from a growing web of lies while investigating a murder victim’s friends and lovers in Lost Beach, Texas.
Detective Nicole Lawson is fed up with her job and nonexistent love life. Her first date in months gets cut short by an urgent call from the chief of police. A body has been discovered at Lighthouse Point, and the medical examiner finds an array of strange clues. When the death is ruled a homicide, the news quickly reverberates through Nicole’s beachside hometown.
The Lost Beach police department swings into high gear. Leading the investigation is Emmet Davis, a veteran detective who is Nicole’s fiercest rival at work and also the man she has secretly harbored feelings toward for years. With Emmet calling the shots, Nicole sets out to search for leads, starting with the enigmatic yoga instructor who first discovered the body. Nicole is certain the witness knows more than she’s revealing and may even hold the key to unlocking the case.
When another person turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, Nicole sees a bizarre pattern, but no one believes her theory. Under the gun to solve the case, Nicole must put aside her tumultuous feelings and work closely with Emmet to figure out who is targeting her beloved hometown . . . before she becomes a target herself.
