Romance Comedy

FUNNY STORY is the second book I’ve read by Emily Henry. Daphne is engaged, living in her fiance's house, and is a children's librarian in Waning Bay, Michigan. Peter has a best friend named Petra, but he always assures Daphne they are just friends. They have been just friends since childhood until they aren't! Oh yeah, get ready for a crazy story! The twists and turns kept coming and I had to know how it was going to end! Every time I thought I knew where this story was going, a few pages later, Emily Henry threw me for a loop and I knew I was wrong! I’m kicking myself for not reading every wonderful novel Emily has written, sooner.

FUNNY STORY is a quick read and unputdownable! There were quite a few times when reading it that I wanted to reach into the pages and shake a few of these people for not communicating with each other. If you have something to say, say it already! I found myself laughing one second and then tearing up the next. If you are looking for a beautiful story to pull you out of your book slump, you can’t go wrong with FUNNY STORY. I wasn’t sure what to expect with FUNNY STORY, but I loved every single page of this wonderful story and Emily Henry is now one of my auto-buy authors.

The twists and turns in FUNNY STORY are going to keep you up late into the night trying to figure it out. One minute you believe you know where Daphne is going with her life and the next you are sitting there shaking your head, wondering what the heck just happened. I had my ideas, I had it all figured out, or so I thought, and BAM…….wrong again! Once you start reading, trust me, you aren’t going to be able to stop! When everything is finally revealed, well, you won’t believe it!

FUNNY STORY begins with Daphne dealing with the death of her life or the way her life was going, and with finding out that her fiance is not the man she thought he was. I thoroughly enjoyed reading FUNNY STORY. It is also heartwarming and filled with so many different emotions. There is so much going on in this story, but Emily Henry does a wonderful job of weaving all the pieces together. All of the characters will have you feeling sad and then giggling on the same page. More than once I wanted to be in Michigan with my newfound friends! Oh yeah, I'm calling dibs on my new book boyfriend, Miles!! Don't even think about it, ladies! Once you finish devouring this story, you are going to want to tell everyone you know about this awesome book.

SUMMARY

A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads —Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?
