Women's Fiction Contemporary

I can’t believe I've never read Suzanne Park before. ONE LAST WORD is such a brilliant story and gave me all the right feels at the right times! I was emotionally invested in Sara and her life from the very first page. It had me laughing within the first few pages, and I was instantly connected to Sara. She is an app designer and has come up with a brilliant one called One Last Word. It texts your friends and loved ones with final messages after you die. Everything is going great until another Sara Chae dies and the app sends out the final messages Sara and her sister wrote one night when they were drunk and writing their final notes. Take a chance and read ONE LAST WORD. You won’t regret it!

ONE LAST WORD is all about Sara and her crazy life. She is a mid-thirties Korean-American woman, living in her sister's closet. Jia, her sister, is funny and pushes Sara to do and be better. After the messages are sent, Sara has to confront her ex-best friend, her old crush and her parents since they are the ones who got them. ONE LAST WORD is so cute, funny, and romantic, and will make you fall in love, and leave you wanting for more. This is the perfect story for a romance movie, whether on the big screen or on television!

ONE LAST WORD held me captive until the very last page. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I just had to know if Sara was going to find her happily ever after as well as finish her book. I will be thinking about Kara’s story for days to come and wonder how I would have handled her situation. Ms. Park had me on quite the emotional rollercoaster by the end of the story but I also had a smile on my face. I wasn’t sure how things were going to go after the plot twist but I loved the ending. As a whole, I really loved and identified with how much this book celebrated a strong but crazy and quirky woman. So thank you Suzanne Park for making my heart so happy. I loved every minute of it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Fresh Fiction. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.

SUMMARY

What would you say to your meddling parents, your ex-best friend, your toxic boss, or your high school crush if you didn’t have to face the consequences?

Sara Chae is the founder of One Last Word, an app that allows you to send a message to anyone you want after you pass. Safeguards are in place so the app will only send when you’re definitely, absolutely, 100% dead, but when another Sara Chae dies and her obituary is posted online, Sara discovers that drafted messages she had drunkenly uploaded on one night have been released —one each to her emotionally charged mother, to her former best friend who ghosted her, and to her unrequited high school crush, Harry Shim.

Still reeling from this disaster, Sara finds out she’s been accepted into a venture capital mentorship program— and that the mentor she’s been assigned to is none other than Harry, who’s now a major VC superstar. With her life going from uncertain to chaotic overnight, Sara has to deal with the havoc that ensues and reopen wounds from the past to find a true path forward.

A pitch-perfect homage for fans of Annabel Monaghan, Alisha Rai, and Jenny Han, One Last Word is an empowering, laugh-out-loud story about a woman who learns to speak up and fight for what she wants in life and love.
