If you enjoyed THE CHEAT SHEET by Sarah Adams issued in 2021, you will love her latest release, THE RULE BOOK. Although not listed as a series, THE RULE BOOK is clearly a companion to the previous book. Picking up about a year after the other ends and involves the same group of friends who are players on the fictional L.A. Sharks professional football team. Nora Mackenzie has been fighting to achieve her dream of being a sports agent which is almost impossible in the toxic, male-dominated profession. Her tough-as-nails mentor provided her with a golden opportunity with a star tight end who needs stellar representation coming off a horrific injury. Nora knows she can ensure Derek Pender's career continues to shine. The one problem is that Derek is Nora's college boyfriend who she dumped and ghosted with no explanation. After a rough start and a drunken night in Vegas results in Nora and Derek waking up married, Derek decides to pretend the marriage is real to save Nora's career. The couple has to work through old anger and fears to discover if the love they once felt is still there and worth the risk. Derek is a sweet, cinnamon roll hero with significant issues he needs to work through related to late diagnosed dyslexia and leftover crappy parental expectations. Nora is a well-written character who struggles with her own feelings about whether having a relationship tanks her career. Surrounding them are a fun group of supporting characters including Bree and Nathan from THE CHEAT SHEET. Too bad they are all married off now. This was a really fast and entertaining read.
One of those rom-coms that revels in all of its tropes, The Rule Book is built on second-chance romance, enemies to lovers, fake dating and forced proximity. And it has all the romantic tension and situational comedy you’d expect from Sarah Adams.
College exes break all the rules when they reunite years later in this enemies to lovers, second-chance romance, the highly anticipated companion novel to the TikTok sensation The Cheat Sheet—from the New York Times bestselling author of Practice Makes Perfect.
