Stella Rivers is excited about meeting a potential client in her budding arborist career, even if it means time separated from her baby. However, there’s more going on than sick trees as Stella’s mysterious client is shot in front of her, leaving Stella on the run from a shooter and towards her baby… until an earthquake changes the entire landscape. Meanwhile, Stella’s ex-fiancé and K-9 handler, Von Sharpe, is an unexpected witness to the shooter chasing Stella. Now Von and Stella will have to put aside their differences if they hope to survive.
I love Bear, Von’s Malinois companion! Bear is gruff, tough, and ready to defend but he’s also enchanted by a tiny baby. Quite frankly, Bear steals the show with his adorable and protective antics. While I love Von and Stella, I couldn’t help but cherish every scene with Bear as I hoped nothing would happen to him as I wanted him to see a happily ever after even more so than Stella and Von.
Dana Mentink does a fabulous job of showcasing the strength and fury of the earth. From the earthquakes to the snow and all the other aftereffects as a result of that, we see just how dangerous and powerful the wilderness can be. I held my breath a few times as Dana Mentink put her characters in some precarious situations. While I have no desire to visit the wilderness camp Von’s brother started, I enjoyed each and every moment of visiting as the breathtaking beauty and energy of Mother Nature shone through so clearly.
I am infamous for peeking at the end of books, especially suspense books, to figure out if I’m on the right track. I encourage my fellow end peekers not to do so with TRAPPED IN YOSEMITE as Dana Mentink masterfully drops hints and pieces of information along the way. Rather than one big a-ha moment at the end, we get revelations in tense moments, just as in real life.
TRAPPED IN YOSEMITE is an inspiring story of courage in the worst of adversity. Dana Mentink doesn’t shy away from hard issues and I love the way she intertwines faith into the storyline without overwhelming the reader. Instead, it’s a much more natural flow that makes all the life changes believable. I have read Dana Mentink in the past and forgotten how much I enjoy her books. Needless to say, I purchased more for my Kindle as I can’t wait to dive into some of her other titles. TRAPPED IN YOSEMITE is the perfect combination of love, tension, drama, and some darned good disaster scenes.
When a massive earthquake levels the region, secrets and unknown dangers are exposed…
The ground in still-icy Yosemite National Park isn’t stable, and K-9 handler Von Sharpe fears the worst. But his worries are pushed aside when he sees an SUV viciously forced off the road…with his ex-fiancée at the wheel. It’s only when Stella Rivers steps out of the vehicle that the very ground under their feet cracks and breaks with the onslaught of a terrifying earthquake.
When her meeting with a mysterious client is ambushed, Stella witnesses the man being gunned down by a sniper and becomes a target herself. With the threat of aftershocks triggering landslides and floods, the new mom has no choice but to run to save her baby girl—even if it means teaming up with the man who has no idea he fathered her child.
Trapped in a dangerously unstable wilderness with a killer closing in, Von and Stella are running out of time to get to safety. And every fissure reveals a new secret that will shake them to their foundation…
