High school student Addie was involved in a life-altering scandal at the end of last school year. Now it’s the beginning of a new school year and while teachers are excitedly preparing for the first day, Addie is dreading it and would rather do almost anything than return to Caseham High. Teachers Eve and Nate Bennett both have Addie in their classrooms. Will last year’s scandal be a distant memory or will it be in everyone’s mind this year? And if so, how will it affect Caseham High? Be warned- if you’ve not read Freida McFadden, you’ll find yourself addicted and wanting to read all this thrilling and spine-tingling (yet not quite nightmare-inducing) author has to offer. I admittedly started reading THE TEACHER with some trepidation as it delves into some serious ethical and legal boundary breakers for teachers (something I normally avoid) but wow, was I blown away! The internet hype on Freida McFadden’s books is legit as THE TEACHER kept me both fascinated and horrified. With each page turned, I thought it couldn’t get more twisted and intriguing, and yet it did. I did NOT see that ending coming at all either! Oh, I figured out a few plot twists here and there, but Freida McFadden had some real doozies in store for her readers and all I can say is I’m officially hooked now! I’ve already read two other McFadden books since finishing THE TEACHER and fortunately, she has a great backlist so I have more to go. THE TEACHER has a relatively small cast of characters we meet and we get to know their deepest, darkest secrets. The story is told from several different points of view, giving us insight into the motivations and fears that drive each character’s actions. Addie’s perspective is particularly well done as Freida McFadden captures the angst and drama of a high school student so well with her. THE TEACHER is an exciting read full of unexpected twists and turns. It’s not for the faint of heart as there are some very controversial and highly unethical aspects to the storyline. However, once you read a Freida McFadden book, I can almost guarantee you won’t be able to stop binging her books as she has mastered the “gotcha” moments that leave you with your mouth hanging open in shock. I can’t wait to get back to reading another one of her thrillers!
A mind-bending, psychological thriller from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Housemaid!
Something isn't right at Caseham High School. Last year, the school was rocked by scandal: a teacher was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Now, Addie is a pariah and will do anything to get through the year. More than that, she's desperate to keep the truth from coming to light.
Evie, a colleague of the disgraced teacher, is horrified to find Addie in her class. She knows the girl can't be trusted and soon realizes she's being watched—which is dangerous, considering she's hiding something from her husband.
But each has secrets about what happened last year. And someone in this school will do anything to keep them silent.
