Riona Griffin has her life planned out. She might be part of the Griffin Irish mob, but she is going to be her own woman. In her life, she has been one BROKEN VOW after another, and she is not going to suffer through that. All she plans is to become a partner at her uncle’s law firm. She cannot imagine that would put her life in danger. When a killer goes after her, the family goes over her objections and hires a bodyguard for her. And not one that is part of the family but a stranger – a cowboy. To say she isn’t happy doesn’t come close. It isn’t that she doesn’t take the threat seriously, she does, Riona just doesn’t like Raylan Boone. Raylan knows Dante Gallo from Iraq and helped him once before, but he isn’t sure that dealing with an Irish ice princess will be worth it. After a few uncomfortable episodes, (being part of her date with her friend with benefits – to name one of the times) he is forced to whisk her out of the area to his family’s ranch. Where Riona gets an education in another way of life. And maybe – just maybe Raylan isn’t so bad after all. BROKEN VOW is a nice twist on the mix of bodyguard and mafia read. Riona is a very interesting heroine as she is determined to be herself and not marry or have children though it is expected and happening all around her. She is going to be a partner in the law firm and be the favorite aunty – when they get past the baby-crying stage. Raylan might come off as a good ol’ boy but he is a man of action and protectiveness. His family shows their love but there is also a past that once it’s explained gives a good look at the man he became. The romance is rather slow in building but Riona is not the trusting type that was expected – though when they do get together, they steam the words off the pages. I think readers will find that the real villain will take them by surprise because it is an unexpected twist. However, if you read carefully, you might find a hint or two. If you want an incredible bodyguard read with a heroine who is capable but finds she needs love and affection and a hero who has his own demons but knows how to love, then get your hands on BROKEN VOW. You will enjoy a steamy romance, action, danger, family and several completely unexpected twists and turns.
