Books and stories by Sharon Sala have certain components in common, angst, joy, and love. Deep within her storyline, there are always moments that will bring a smile to your face. HEARTBEAT is no exception. Basically, books by Sharon Sala are meant to savor and enjoy, even when they center on less-than-noble endeavors like murder and mayhem. So herein lies the challenge of writing a review for HEARTBEAT the newest book by this amazing, entertaining author – and not giving away the plot.
So let us start at the beginning, which isn’t actually the start, but that is another part that needs to be glossed over. Amalie Lincoln and Sean Pope are the stars of this story, with a supporting cast that is amazing, numerous and bound to bring many ah-ha moments to those of us lucky enough to have read Sharon Sala before.
I think HEARTBEAT is going to be part of the "Secrets and Shadows" series. It certainly has all the earmarks of belonging to this romantic suspense series and features the Popes, one of the mountain families of Jubilee.
Amalie has lived her life in the system. One foster family to another, never really having a family to belong to. Then she luckily survives a brutal car accident with scars to prove it. But it is her inner strength and tenacity that pushes her along on a road to the future. In order to follow these subconscious dreams and thoughts she winds up in Jubilee, Kentucky setting up her own CPA firm.
Amalie finds Sean now also there by Pope Mountain. Sean and Amalie had formed a friendship while in elementary school. Separated by time and space their unique friendship managed to survive. And now they are wondering if they might share a future. Only time will tell.
In the meantime, the small town of Jubilee is hit with a tragic event, a helicopter crash, which turns out not to be accidental. This event brings the FBI to town and opens an investigation with tendrils that spread. The entire group of mountain families find themselves somewhat enmeshed in this investigation. And that is where the incredible vision of Sharon Sala takes over.
Let us just say HEARTBEAT is truly a page-turner that at times has your heart beating hard and fast. The pace is fast, and many twists and turns are unexpected. Fans of Sharon Sala are certainly going to want to get their hands on HEARTBEAT. If you have already read Don’t Back Down you will recognize some of the characters.
Sean Pope already lost Amalie Lincoln once. This time, he will risk everything to never have to say goodbye to her again.

But as the investigators uncover the truth and the crooks behind the attack set Amalie in their sights, Sean must face the danger or risk losing Amalie forever.
