Thriller Psychological | Mystery Amateur Sleuth

They hadn't been close for years, but Meg knew that eventually she and her sister Haley would work things out. Then she was told Haley had died while at an exclusive rehab center. The cause of death? Most likely suicide. Recognizing that their childhood left much to be desired as did the troubled paths they traveled in adulthood, Meg could not accept that her sister would kill herself. Seeking answers and with addictions of her own, Meg checks into the rehab center. What she experiences and discovers will stay with readers for a long time.
THE CLINIC, a novel by Cate Quinn, is set in a remote area of the Pacific Northwest where the weather casts a gloomy pall over the building. However, the interior is high-tech and state-of-the-art (and beyond) and this is where the magic happens. With the exception of Meg, the well-crafted group of current patients are all well-known and have formed bonds and relationships. Meg comes in with a special skill set. She works for a casino where it is her job to catch cheaters. She is very good at her job, but what is happening at the rehab clinic is about as far as one can get from a poker game.
The story is told by two voices: that of Meg and that of Cara who manages the facility. Their perspectives provide unique viewpoints. The tense story moves quickly. It is packed with secrets, shocking developments and twists and turns. Well researched, the narrative presents an in-depth look at addictions, trauma and psychological conditions.
For those readers looking for an exciting and propulsive psychological thriller, THE CLINIC is that book. Highly recommended.

SUMMARY

From the critically acclaimed author of Black Widows comes a thriller set in a remote rehab clinic on the Pacific Northwest coast, in which the death of a woman inside prompts her sister to enter the clinic as a patient in order to find the truth. Perfect for fans of Stacy Willingham and Tarryn Fisher!

Meg works for a casino in LA, catching cheaters and popping a few too many pain pills to cope, following a far different path than her sister Haley, a famous actress. But suddenly reports surface of Haley dying at the remote rehab facility where she had been forced to go to get her addictions under control.

There are whispers of suicide, but Meg can't believe it. She decides that the best way to find out what happened to her sister is to check in herself – to investigate what really happened from the inside.

Battling her own addictions and figuring out the truth will be much more difficult than she imagined, far away from friends, family – and anyone who could help her.
