Famous, autocratic Cullen Pulaski has drawn together his tried and true team -- with two new additions -- to deal with the suspected murders of three people working with a consortium to broker a trade deal with China. The police are unsure any of the deaths are homicides, but Cullen is convinced someone is trying to destroy the deal.
To help with this case, Cullen brings in his goddaughter, Madison Harper, a profiler at the top of her game. She joins CIA operative Gabriel Roarke and the two immediately butt heads, both strong-willed and used to going their own way. But as they investigate this case and isolate more deaths that appeared to be accidental, they slowly begin to respect each other's abilities. (Although Gabe has a hard time putting much stock in profiling, instead wanting hard evidence and legwork to be the main ways to solve the case.)
As the team tracks the killer (or possibly killers?), it becomes apparent that Madison is being targeted, too. The sparks between Gabe and Madison ignite after she watches an old family friend killed right in front of her. Devastated, she turns to Gabe for comfort, and he finds himself falling for the strong-willed loner.
ENDGAME is an excellent beginning to a Ms. Davis' trilogy. Lots of action, lots of undertones, and some darned hot guys! What more can you ask for? Madison is a great character, a tough woman fighting it out in a world where women sometimes aren't respected. I liked Gabe, but honestly, of the three guys, I think he's my least favorite. Payton's story is next (ENIGMA, 6/05) and then I can't wait -- Nigel's (EXPOSURE, 9/05). I've read the first two books so far and recommend them to anyone wanting some action in their romances.
