Linda Lael Miller returns to Painted Pony Creek this holiday season with the fourth book in the series with the apropostitle, CHRISTMAS IN PAINTED PONY CREEK. When Tessa Stafford’s old car breaks down outside of town, she and her daughter are immediately invited into the community with a job and a place to live. Tessa has lived on a shoestring budget, moving around to stay one step ahead of the mother of her ex who wants to take custody of her daughter, legally or otherwise.
Disillusioned after his divorce, Jesse McKettrick left his law practice in California to do carpentry and help open up the Wild West-themed venue owned by his brother in Painted Pony. Both having been burned, Tessa and Jesse are drawn to each other but struggle with their feelings of self-worth.
CHRISTMAS IN PAINTED PONY CREEK is a sweet and simple, feel-good holiday romance. However, having read this author before, I expected a richer storyline. The characters and plot are a little boring and shallow. Fans of Painted Pony will be happy to know that characters from prior books are featured but this book can be read as a standalone.
Tessa Stafford will do anything for her daughter, Isabel…even stay on the run to protect Isabel from her narcissistic grandmother. But when her car breaks down in Painted Pony Creek, Tessa gets caught up in the warm embrace of the town and feels safe enough to build a home—and a life—for them both. Love is the last thing on her mind until rugged cowboy and lawyer Jesse McKettrick’s sexy smile and easy way tempt her into imagining more. But can she trust this handsome stranger with her heart?
When Tessa and her adorable daughter blow into town, Jesse McKettrick is smitten—by both the little girl and her beautiful mother. He’s always wanted a family of his own. Maybe this Christmas, his wish will finally come true. But the walls around Tessa are impenetrable, and when Tessa’s past threatens their newfound future—and the family he’s come to love—Jesse won’t let them go without a fight.
