Mystery

Rain Wilmot runs the Lakeside Library out of her grandfather’s old log cabin in Lofty Pines, Wisconsin. She’s ready to restart a biweekly summer book club, but she doesn’t realize the first meeting will give a killer the idea of how to poison a fellow member in the third Lakeside Library Mystery, READ TO DEATH AT THE LAKESIDE LIBRARY.

After the first book club meeting and discussion of Agatha Christie’s Sparkling Cyanide, member Lily Redlin is found dead in her home. The evidence points to poison and two wine glasses indicate someone was with Lily before her death. Lily had recently been dealing with several things. She had been hinting at holding a former classmate responsible for a tragic boat accident that occurred when she was in high school. Would someone kill to avoid prosecution? Lily was also rumored to have obtained an unpublished and valuable Laura Ingalls Wilder manuscript. Was greed the motive? And lastly, Lily had received a letter regarding an inheritance from a long-lost relative. Lily questioned the validity of the inheritance since she never met the man. Did someone else want to inherit the valuable estate? With so many questions swirling and motives being discovered, Rain and her friend Julia Reynolds must follow the clues and track down the truth. The duo also needs to make sure they don’t tick off Julia’s brother, Jace Lowe, who is a law enforcement officer. Jace is quite fond of Rain, but tampering with a crime scene may just be too much. Can a reenactment of the first book club meeting flush out a killer? Or will the killer be the one to write the final chapter of this mystery?

READ TO DEATH AT THE LAKESIDE LIBRARY is a delightful mystery that uses an Agatha Christie novel in its plot and presents readers with a plethora of motives and suspects. The mystery twists and turns and includes many interesting elements - a book club meeting, a tragic boat accident, a mysterious Laura Ingalls Wilder manuscript, an intriguing inheritance, a secret room, an incriminating cassette, an old boat, storms, and a harrowing fire. Rain is a smart young woman who was widowed very young. She is dealing with her loss and forging ahead with a new love interest. Her crime-solving antics involve her best friend, Julia, and the two find themselves in precarious situations at every turn. Smart plotting, solid writing, an idyllic lakeside setting, and a clever book tie-in make this cozy mystery a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read. Cocktail and food recipes included!

SUMMARY

Perfect for fans of Jenn McKinlay and Ellery Adams, Rain Wilmot must find a novel solution in order to catch another killer—before her book club members are picked off one by one.

Summer is in full swing as tourists flock back to the Northwoods and travel to Lofty Pines, Wisconsin. For Rain Wilmot, owner of the Lakeside Library, this is the perfect opportunity to bring back her mother’s summer book club. But the summer sun starts to really heat up when one of the club’s members, Lily Redlin, is found dead in her own home not long after the first meeting.

Alongside her sidekick and neighbor Julia Reynolds and the charming Jace Lowe, Rain discovers that the murder is seemingly inspired by the book the club recently discussed Agatha Christie’s classic mystery novel Sparkling Cyanide. But who would kill Lily, and more importantly, why?

The deeper Rain dives into the story, the more confusing and complicated the plot becomes. Was Lily murdered to cover up a tragic accident that occurred years ago involving an old classmate? Or were the rumors true—did Lily really possess a priceless original Laura Ingles Wilder manuscript and someone killed her for it? And what about the mysterious letter Lily received just before her death from a supposed long-lost relative? Was it a hoax?

With a long list of suspects and motives, Rain realizes that all leads come back to people involved in the book club. Rain and her friends take a page from Agatha Christie’s book by hosting a reenactment of the club’s first meeting to flush out the killer. Will Rain’s plan succeed—or will this librarian’s book be checked out for good?
