CAPTURE THE SUN is the rousing third book in the sci-fi romance Starlight's Shadow trilogy by the outstanding author Jessie Mihalek. I discovered Mihalik via a recommendation by one of my favorite author duos of all time, Ilona Andrews. The recommendation was spot-on, and Mihalik quickly catapulted to auto-buy status for me.

This trilogy features the delightful members of Captain "Tavi" Zarola's bounty hunting crew--a crew that feels like the found family from Joss Whedon's Firefly TV series (a fan-favorite show that I adore). Tavi's crew end up reluctantly collaborating with various Valoffs, former enemies from a recent war who have supernatural powers. The bounty-hunting crew members are naturally brash, mouthy, and unbelievably brave, just as you'd expect. They keep managing to get pulled into tricky situations while they ply their trade, eventually stepping up to try to avert a resumption of the interplanetary war. The Valoffs are highly competent and sexy males, and the romantic pairings are so yummy.

Here, Lexi Bowen is the star of the action.  She's a recovery specialist, stealing valuables for the rich and exclusive. Lexi's latest contract takes her to the planet of Valovia, where she unhappily runs into teleporter Nilo Shoren. Nilo stole a previous heist out from under Lexi's nose and nearly stole her heart to boot. Lexi is forced to shelter with Nilo in order to evade hostile forces and decides to have one night of decadent pleasure to blast Nilo out of her system. We know how well that ploy works in romance books, haha! When Lexi's crew goes missing in Valovian space, Lexi and Nilo team up to rescue the ship and crewmembers and to make sure the war doesn't resume.

There is a lot of exciting action going on in CAPTURE THE SUN. Military threats, telepathic dangers, and underworld shenanigans all conspire to keep Lexi and Nilo scrambling. This book left me breathless from the time I opened it until I turned the last page. Despite this, Lexi and Nilo manage to forge a beautiful emotional bond. And of course, the sexy times between the two have smoke rising off the pages, it's so hot!

CAPTURE THE SUN is stuffed full of action, danger, and intrigue. Add in the delightful romance between Lexi and Nilo, and Mihalik's CAPTURE THE SUN is a supernova of reading pleasure.

SUMMARY

Acclaimed author Jessie Mihalik returns with the thrilling conclusion to her Starlight’s Shadow trilogy. An intergalactic thief must join forces with the charming teleporter who stole her last job—and may now be her only hope for saving her former crew.

As a recovery specialist, Lexi Bowen’s jobs typically require more trickery and thievery than honest work. Her former captain might not approve of her flexible morals, but stealing artifacts for rich assholes pays the bills, and Lexi’s had enough of war and death. The FHP left her to die once; she doesn’t plan to give them a chance to finish the job.

Unfortunately, her latest contract takes her to Valovia itself—and right back into the orbit of Nilo Shoren, a Valovian teleporter who already cost her one payday and nearly stole her heart.

Armored against his clever charm, Lexi plans to get in, get the job done, and get out. But when her former crew goes missing in Valovian space, Lexi will have to work with Nilo to figure out what happened—and stop it—before the galaxy’s two superpowers can use the disappearance as an excuse to return to war.
