Thriller Psychological

Audiobook narrated by Brittany Pressley and Rebecca Lowman.

NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW by Lindsay Cameron brings us to the Upper East Side and the salacious and juicy gossip of its wealthy residents. Norah is career driven and focused, feeling the mom-guilt while she does her best to balance work and being a mother. Poppy is the UES darling stuck in a celibate marriage with a child who better fall in line. And Heather is feeling the impostor syndrome as she struggles to fit in with the people who are way above her income bracket while trying to get the best for her daughter. Their stories are all interesting, and they kept me invested and wanting to know more.

NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW is told predominantly by three women in different income brackets with lots of issues - some they aren’t even aware of yet. One thing these women did have in common was the desire to give their children every advantage possible. I loved learning more about these characters. The story definitely took some turns I wasn’t expecting, and it brought some surprises for the characters as well. Because this was told from multiple points of view, I feel like it was well-paced. Even while enjoying the POV I was in, I couldn’t wait to get back to the previous one to find out where it was going to pick up. This story made me feel like a voyeur at times, and I love feeling like I’m looking in the windows of someone else’s life while I’m reading a mystery or thriller. This book focused on the mystery as well as the goings-on in the women's lives, and less on the thriller aspect, which I found enthralling.

Though each chapter did tell you whose point of view it was from, it did take a few chapters from each woman to get a feel for each character. I found the back cover blurb to be misleading--the Urban Myth scandal might come across as the catalyst for everything that happens in the book, but it has a much smaller role overall. Also, I found the prologue and last chapter confusing because they didn't add much to the storyline and felt redundant. I expected the book to finish with a big flourish but it just fizzled to a muddled close.

Nonetheless, NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW was an interesting look into the lives of the elite. And if you go into this book expecting it to be Women’s Fiction rather than Mystery/Thriller, I think you will enjoy it much more!

Audiobook Narration: This book was narrated by Brittany Pressley and Rebecca Lowman, though I’m not sure why. I think because Rebecca Lowman, who gave a fine performance, only narrated the prologue and the last chapter was to add an element of surprise, but since the three women shared the same narrator, it didn’t make sense to me. I think that things would have elevated the listening experience if each woman was narrated by a different person and would have helped the reader to determine who was who from the get-go. That being said, Brittany Pressley gave a wonderful performance as always. She is a fantastic narrator that always does a great job, and I look forward to more of her in the future.

SUMMARY

When an anonymous neighborhood forum gets hacked, the darkest secrets of New York’s wealthiest residents come to light—including some worth killing for—in this gripping suspense novel from the author of Just One Look.

“Big Little Lies meets Gossip Girl in this unputdownable read as smart and witty as it is delectable . . . I raced through it!”—Liv Constantine, author of The Last Mrs. Parrish

It was all confidential. Right up to the moment when it wasn’t.

UrbanMyth: It was lauded as an alternative to the performative, show-your-best-self platforms—an anonymous discussion board grouped by zip code. The residents of Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side disclosed it all, things they would never share with their friends or their spouses: secret bank accounts, steamy affairs, tidbits of juicy gossip. The same people who, as parents, go to astonishing lengths to ensure that their children gain admission to the most prestigious boarding schools and universities. So when a “hacktivist” group breaks into the forum and exposes the real identity of each poster, the repercussions echo down Park Avenue with a force that none could have anticipated.

And someone ends up dead.

Is the murderer Heather, the outsider who would do anything to get her daughter into the elite’s good graces and into their even better schools? Norah, the high-powered executive failing to balance work with the emotional responsibilities of motherhood? Or Poppy, whose perfect-on-the-outside façade conceals more than her share of secrets?

Each of them has something to hide.

Each of them will do anything to keep secrets hidden.

And each of them just might kill to protect their own.
