WOLF ON THE WILD SIDE is the latest installment in Terry Spear’s books featuring the Wolff siblings. The story is set in the werewolf-run small town called Silver Town. Wolff sibling, and event coordinator, Kayla and her beau Nate Silver take their relationship to the next level in this book. Rather than a story about a couple that meets for the first time, WOLF ON THE WILD SIDE is about an established couple whose relationship grows and deepens as they deal with some unexpected danger.
Kayla and Nate have been dating for roughly a year. After an initial attraction, they have settled into a satisfying and committed relationship. They just haven’t moved to the next step in their relationship one reason or another. The love is there, but the planning for forever is the last thing to work out. I always enjoy stories like this, in which the feelings the main couple has for each other are secure, and they work together to accomplish some goal or thwart some villain. In this book, Nate and Kayla do both. The story opens with Kayla and her sister Roxie, in their wolf forms, overhearing two shady characters on Wolff land. This is some major foreshadowing and, while nothing very revealing is overheard, you just know that these guys are up to no good. Terry Spear mixes it up in WOLF ON THE WILD SIDE with sweet and fun dating vignettes between Nate and Kayla, contrasted with flashes of something ominous going on in the surrounding area. I love this romance, but I also really enjoy the tantalizing array of questions that float into the minds of mystery lovers like me. Who were the two men Kayla and Roxie overheard? What do the keys the Wolff siblings discover unlock and who do they belong to? And what happened to the missing man Nate and his sister Nicole are paid to find?
WOLF ON THE WILD SIDE is wonderful mix of evolving love story and intriguing detective story for readers to savor. Kayla doesn’t have the military training her sister-in-law does, but she’s caring and exhibits a bravery while under pressure. The relaxed family dynamic in WOLF ON THE WILD SIDE contributed to my overall enjoyment of the story. Normally Silver Town is a safe and charming haven, but in this book, it took on sinister shadows. I liked the different tone and perspective for one of my favorite fictional towns. I look forward to reading Terry Spear’s next wolf shifter romance.
