In A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONNAY, Sunshine Vicram’s life is once again turned upside down as more than one blast from the past comes back to haunt her. Or is it to heal her?
I would be remiss if I didn’t start off with the little tidbits that begin each chapter. They’re fun and hilarious, following the tone of the rest of this story to a T! Sunshine’s antics continue in this one as she works to solve a possible murder after a fight at a local bar. As you can imagine, many things get in her way to derail her, including Del Sol’s resident bad boy, Levi Ravinder. He may be her only lead, but nothing can keep him in line. Not even a jail cell…or Sun’s handcuffs. The chemistry between them in this one is fun, as always. There’s a standoffishness even while sparks are flying, and it’s so fun to watch. I love Sun’s inner dialogue whenever he’s around.
The secondary cast in this one is amusing, as well. I love Rojas’ character and the role Sun has put him in, showing her faith in people and how she follows her instincts. Her friendship with Haley is interesting, too, cloaked in secrecy that honestly, neither one can pull off, making it so entertaining to read about. Sunshine’s relationship with her bestie, Quincy, takes an interesting turn in this one that will leave you amused and solidify that their friendship can truly survive anything. There are a lot of other characters in this book that I enjoyed - Sun’s parents, the local townies, and Jimmy, Haley’s son. It’s impossible to touch on them all, but they’re part of what makes Del Sol and Sun’s life so interesting.
Auri’s character (Sun's daughter) was a bit of a different story for me. She was making incredibly irresponsible choices in this one, and it put a lot of people in danger. There were virtually no consequences for her actions, and I would have liked to see more accountability. Her relationship with Cruz is also a bit iffy for me. I do have a huge soft spot for his character, and his storyline in this one was so good. I'm just not sure about them together.
A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONNAYwas a solid bridge to the last book in the Sunshine Vicram series. Things are resolved in this one in more ways than one, and I think fans are going to be pleased with the way things turn out. I'm excited to read the finale and see what comes next from Darynda Jones!
Audiobook Narration: Lorelei King’s narration, as always, was superb. I love everything about it. She does a good job with the men’s voices, and she conveys the fun tone of this series perfectly. Seeing her name on an audiobook title makes me likely to purchase a book I’m already eyeing! I can’t recommend her narration enough.
Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job. Sadly, full-time Sheriff—and even fuller-time coffee guzzler—Sunshine Vicram, didn’t get that memo.
All Sunshine really wants is one easy-going day. You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with take-out pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven). Turns out, that’s about as easy as switching to decaf. (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)
Before she can say iced mocha latte, Sunny’s got a bar fight gone bad, a teenage daughter hunting a serial killer and, oh yes, the still unresolved mystery of her own abduction years prior. All evidence points to a local distiller, a dangerous bad boy named Levi Ravinder, but Sun knows he’s not the villain of her story. Still, perhaps beneath it all, he possesses the keys to her disappearance. At the very least, beneath it all, he possesses a serious set of abs. She’s seen it. Once. Accidentally.
Between policing a town her hunky chief deputy calls four cents short of a nickel, that pesky crush she has on Levi which seems to grow exponentially every day, and an irascible raccoon that just doesn’t know when to quit, Sunny’s life is about to rocket to a whole new level of crazy.
