Both Feet in the Grave
Jeaniene Frost

Fantasy Urban | Romance Paranormal

BOTH FEET IN THE GRAVE is the tenth book in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series. BOTH FEET IN THE GRAVE is essentially the same story as ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, except the latter is told from Cat’s perspective and the former is told from Bones’ perspective. Rather than just a rehash of ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, there are new scenes featuring Bones that Cat wasn’t a part of.

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE is possibly my favorite book in the Night Huntress series, so I was excited to see what Jeaniene Frost could do differently while still being the story I always loved. Bones is still the sexy vampire we’ve always loved, but we get to see so much more vulnerability. In this book spotlighting the reunion between this powerhouse paranormal couple, you get a sense of the niggling secret fear that Cat will leave him again. Jeaniene Frost does a great job of describing his fear to readers without taking anything away from this character. DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE was always my least favorite book in this series but getting this insight into what Bones was thinking explains a lot and gives context for some of his actions and harsh words in that previous book. I think you also get to see another side to Cat in this story as well. I love the angsty conversations between her and Bones. They hit that sweet spot between drama and romance. As a longtime fan of this author, reading about Ian’s evolution from this series through his own Night Rebel series, it’s fascinating getting another look at his introduction. You get more of a flavor of what the early relationship between Bones and Ian was like. When you were first introduced to him in ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, it was hard to understand why Bones was so hesitant to destroy Ian if necessary. Now, knowing that character like we do, the interactions between just he and Bones are like little gems for fans. As with ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, so much of what makes the love scenes between Cat and Bones so intense, is the history between them and the hefty dose of adoration they feel for each other. You just can’t usually get that same impact in stories in which the main characters just meet.

BOTH FEET IN THE GRAVE is like a fab remix of your favorite song. I eagerly await the next two books, because I’m especially excited to get Bones’ perspective on the events in both of those books. Because this is part of a series and the events of the previous book play such a huge role in events in this one – this book should be read in order. As a fan who has read the first few books from Cat’s perspective, I wonder what it would be like to start the series from Bones’ POV, but that’s something for readers who might be new to the series and this author to ponder.

SUMMARY

Bones is back to tell you his side of what happened when he spent four long years looking for Cat, the half vampire now known as the “Red Reaper.” But now that he’s found her, has time hardened Bones too much to risk love again? Or will his passion for Cat burn through every obstacle-alive, undead, or otherwise-between them?

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Night Huntress series comes a fresh, new perspective on the origin saga of Cat and Bones, in Bones’s own words…
