"He wanted more than a bodyguard - he wanted a mate!"

Fresh Fiction Review

Wolf Takes the Lead

Romance Billionaire | Romance Paranormal | Romance Fantasy

Sometimes doing the right thing just puts you in hot water. Billionaire wolf Derek Spencer didn't hire Kate Hanover as a bodyguard for a very simple reason. Not that he didn't trust that she couldn't do the job, but that he was very attracted to her, and being an employee would make things sticky. So when she won't talk to him after that he has no choice but hopes things will work when his WOLF TAKES THE LEAD.

Kate was rather upset when she lost out on the job so she was avoiding contact with him though a number of her friends were his friends. But after being talked into going to a fancy gala with him - and dealing with his pushy human girlfriend things start to change. Moving slow is something that seems to be working, even if Derek is ready for his perfect mate.

WOLF TAKES THE LEAD by Terry Spear is a fun read. This couple has the perfect dynamic that pulls readers along as they go from wary, to friends, to lovers, to mates. Terry Spear has a different take on the mating ritual of wolf shifters, which adds to the slow burn that affects all the shifter couples in her books, especially those not fully mated. And can sometimes be frustrating for the reader who knows they need to be together.

I enjoyed the camaraderie of this couple and their friends as they partied together at fancy gala's but could also be seen camping out and enjoying simple get-togethers despite their wealth. I loved how Kate handled the human ex-girlfriend, not sure how she managed to be so calm when the woman was so annoying and obviously so greedy.

The camping trip they all shared was an added bonus of seeing the other billionaire wolves we have met before and their families.

If you love shifters, billionaires who are very down to earth, and a heroine who knows her own strength, add in a romance that will have you fanning yourself and some intrigue to spice it up then WOLF TAKES THE LEAD is a perfect read.

SUMMARY

Billionaire wolf Derek Spencer may have a rocky history with she-wolves, but there's no one better to take as his date to the latest gala than the wolf he's had his eye on ever since she applied to be his bodyguard—the remarkable Kate Hanover. Kate checks all the boxes for his perfect mate: she's smart, sexy, and business savvy, not to mention one of the best bodyguards around.

But ever since Derek gave his bodyguard position to another wolf, Kate has been avoiding him. It's only when she reluctantly agrees to be his date to the gala that she realizes why: the attraction between the two alpha wolves is undeniable, but Kate doesn't want to end up as one of the billionaire's many flings. The more time Kate and Derek spend together, the more they are in danger...of falling deeply in love.
