All Elodie MacLean wants to do is find some peace. The past is never the past in Skye and especially not the wild past and pains she had suffered and had caused. She isn't made of some kind of IRON EMBER; she is a woman with no magic and a past no one wants to forgive.
Scott Ryan is on a mission to find out who is killing Druids and how to stop them. He comes to Skye and falls in love with the island and his quarry. His leader has sent him to find Elodie, but his ultra-confidence is lost to this woman who doesn't trust. Can he conclude his mission and keep the woman who quickly stole his heart?
Author Donna Grant has a way with magical beings that makes them so realistic you want them to be a part of your world. Luckily Ms. Grant shares her many fascinating worlds with her readers giving us romance, danger, intrigue, and real life in the pages of her books and IRON EMBER is one of those. So many secrets on both sides but the slow building of trust almost implodes with the truth.
Elodie lost her magic and what she learns about the night her father died will have readers wanting to comfort the girl she was as well as the woman she had become. There are times when protection, even that that is intended for the good, can go too far. Scott, I have to admit, at first was not one of my favorite heroes Ms. Grant has come up with - he was just too sure of himself and his ability to get answers and walk away. I was glad to see him knocked down a peg or two and become the man Elodie desperately needed in her life.
IRON EMBER is the well-written, well-thought-out beginning to a new Skye Druid series. And with the ending, you can see that there is still much that needs to be done at Skye Island to make things right in the Druid world again. This book will leave you wanting more - in a good impatient way.
