Romance | Romance Suspense

Griffith Laughton is the second hot guy to enter Fiona Kennedy's L.A. bookstore in one day -- and she must admit he's even better than the first guy with the attractive German accent. When Griff proposes a chance to look at a manuscript to determine whether it's real or a forgery, Fiona is definitely hooked. She could use some fun and some attractive male companionship. Life has been difficult since her husband disappeared five years ago, and since he was only recently declared dead, it's been awhile since there was a man in her life.

But Fiona is starting to get hang-up telephone calls and it seems someone may be stalking her. When Griff finally confesses that he was placed undercover to protect her, Fiona isn't sure who she should trust. Griff's touch brought her passion awake after far too long, but he's been lying to her since he first sauntered his tall, dark and handsome self into the bookstore.

Griff plans to get close to Fiona -- damned close -- when he goes undercover as part of an organization that recovers stolen art and antiquities. His plan works well and everything is fine until he walks into the bookstore and finds an old enemy holding a gun to her head. Then he's on the run, trying to keep a woman safe who'd just as soon stick a knife in his lying hide.

Ms. Albert draws readers into her mystery/suspense book and even more so into the lives of Griff and Fiona. This couple need each other but are going to have to fight through a lot to find stable ground. Can Griff walk away from the work he's been doing for years to find his place with Fiona? You'll enjoy the opportunity to learn about these two complex characters.

SUMMARY

Rare books expert Fiona Kennedy can tell a forgery from the genuine article in a snap. Drop-dead sexy Grif Laughton, however,is not so easy to read: when he appears in her Los Angeles bookshop, she knows he's a masterpiece of the male kind -- and the attraction he sparks is more than real. But Grif is a man of secrets, and the potentially priceless antique manuscript he's asked her to appraise is just one of them.

Since the academic scandal that resulted in her husband's disappearance five years ago, Fiona is finally ready to close the book on her past... But nothing prepared her for the stalker that's willing to kill for the manuscript, or the discovery that Grif is a mercenary, hired to protect her. Plunged into hyper-drive to dodge an unknown enemy, Fiona gives in to an all-consuming need for the man who may be her one chance for survival -- or her final chapter.
